Pixels fishing: the best part of my day

Nov 02, 2010 18:42

I am having a Not Good Day--not quite a Bad Day, but definitely Not Good--for no particular reason at all. I've spent the entire day feeling aimlessly pitiful and wanting to cry. Mostly, I stare at an open Word document for several minutes at a stretch, then check on my Godfinger All-Stars phone app.

Godfinger is crack. I love flinging them around. I gave them all a vacation at my taverns and the fishing hole yesterday. It was very relaxing.

I've set it up so I have a little barn/farm in the middle with two ponds on either side, and I can just sit there and watch two people fish and three people rake their little flowers, and click the stars as they float up from the fisherpeople, make sunshine or rain as needed, and it is weirdly relaxing.

Mine is in terrible need of rearranging, period, what with trying to get the 20 buildings crammed in there for the goal. Now that I've finally done that, I want to rearrange it into something that doesn't take ALL of my mana every time I go, just to power up all my buildings. >.>

Yeah, they want me to get 15, and I don't know how I'd afford them, much less where I'd put them. Upgrading my totem and getting the spooky mansion (at 1/2 off!) wiped me out.

I do just put my people on the long-running farms while I'm gone and then move them to the little five-minute farms while I'm there. That way I have to interact with them more often, and it makes them level up faster.

Oh come on, Mort lacks a lot of the character of the later books. It's Death-centric, but so is Soul Music, and that is infinitely better.

Also, OMG LOL AT FICTION ALLEY. Thank fuck I left that place years ago.

Plus Soul Music has the fairly more marketable female Susan instead of Mort who I just keep picturing as the skinny guy from Ratatouille.

And an Oscar-bait soundtrack built right into the premise.

DUDE - how could I have possibly forgotten that. Seriously Music with Rocks in needs to be on the Oscars.

I...really feel ashamed to have ever visited FictionAlley now. I mean, what the fuck. 'Needy charity' indeed.

I think trying to take charity money for fanfic is going to get on the nerves of some otherwise tolerant copyright holders.

"I've done the research and I'm here to tell you that there are far more sources of funding available to starving children in Africa than there are to fan-oriented websites."

Oh god they didn't.

Well, they apparently quietly revised that to "traditional charities," but YEAH.

I just want to yell, because I'm on the board of a non-profit, and my brother's group has an idea in the running for the Pepsi Refresh grant. Charities have more sources of funding BECAUSE THEY HELP PEOPLE.

Sorry, fanfic archieves are not going to feed hungry families, teach children, or help domestic abuse survivors. And those sorts of groups - they're struggling. I can tell you that from my time spent at the YWCA Canada national meeting, a lot of traditional routes for funding have been cut off.

If they win a grant I will need to punch things.

You could send a complaint to Pepsi Corp about the true nature of the this applicant. Or publicity Google bomb them to death.
