Hannibal 1x01: "Apéritif"

Oh, why not.

So I've come out of recapper retirement for this because Silence of the Lambs is my favorite movie. Yeah, I used to not admit that because, obviously, people give you the side-eye. (My mother still squawks about "THAT MOVIE?! BUT THE PART WHERE SHE GOES INTO THE BASEMENT!!" every time it comes up, like I should have put the DVD in the ( Read more... )

Did you know there is an awesome novel length serial killer femslash fanfic with Clarice Starling and Dana Scully in it? Just sayin'.

Sorry about the wait, got this while on my phone and didn't have the link to hand, then didn't see it 'til I was going back through tidying up my inbox. You must let me know what you think!

It's alright, my comments were more of a shot in the dark, I'm glad that you replied eventually. I discovered Cleo's blog through her Twilight stuff, and then completely neglected it as I watched Hannibal season one week by week, plus I only registered on Lj this April so there's a lot of catching up to do in her previous recaps. :) And yes, i'll be responding here after i'd read the thing.

P.S. What kind of fanfic-fandoms are you in? I can recommend some fics for you as well.

Oh, I'm not in fandom. I mean, I like some shows that have fandoms and have had brief forays into them, but I don't really read fanfic.

Well you see, there are certain fanfics that are so well written, you can almost read them on their own (perhaps reading the plot summary of the canon story would be enough), stuff like the SotL/X-Files crossover you've directed me to. There's just so, so much evocative stuff you can get out of it (I'm assuming you're not the author?) I could rave about it for hours. [Starling is a strong female character, and I've thought of her as being bisexual if not outright lesbian, and the actress who played Scully is now a recurring character in Hannibal...) Since discovering fanfiction as a Thing, I have found fics that fit that criteria about Detective Conan (manga/anime), Inception, Hannibal, Harry Potter, and LotR (really about the broader Middle-earth). That's what I've been asking about in my previous comment. I was indeed hoping that you're into Hannibal, but if you're interested in any one of those I just listed, I have a couple of great fics that might interest you as well.

I watched the first episode or two of Hannibal but it was too style-over-substance for me - though my other half tumblrs and entertains me with accounts of the ridiculous things going on in the story. I'm sure we'll get around to it at some point but it's not high on our list ( ... )

"Hannibal" is certainly an acquired taste (i'm not sorry at all :P) of a TV series. I have a term for stuff like this and Sherlock/Elementary: Glorified Fanfiction. And I mean "glorified" in the most complementary sense. They are derivative of another person's work, and by the grace of God actually elevated and honored the source material in many ways. That's what I look for in 'ordinary' written fanfic as well: new stories, but with the characters acting so in-character they fit perfectly in that universe and you'll believe that it's really part of an untold tale of that world. I'm on chapter six right now, but so far Clarice and Dana seem so alive. The Inception fic I'm reccing is called "Fallout" and it's a worthy sequel to the film, I swear. I'm not saying you should read the fics (or watch the rest of Hannibal) right away, but store 'em away for the future? Please consider ( ... )

OK, I've just finished reading The Phases of Fire... vermouth1991 October 19 2014, 07:08:00 UTC
And I am in shell shock. Would you like to continue this discussion on this thread, or should we move to either my journal or yours? If you choose to go to my place I'll set up an entry there.
