Oh, why not.

So I've come out of recapper retirement for this because Silence of the Lambs is my favorite movie. Yeah, I used to not admit that because, obviously, people give you the side-eye. (My mother still squawks about "THAT MOVIE?! BUT THE PART WHERE SHE GOES INTO THE BASEMENT!!" every time it comes up, like I should have put the DVD in the ( Read more... )

"Hannibal" is certainly an acquired taste (i'm not sorry at all :P) of a TV series. I have a term for stuff like this and Sherlock/Elementary: Glorified Fanfiction. And I mean "glorified" in the most complementary sense. They are derivative of another person's work, and by the grace of God actually elevated and honored the source material in many ways. That's what I look for in 'ordinary' written fanfic as well: new stories, but with the characters acting so in-character they fit perfectly in that universe and you'll believe that it's really part of an untold tale of that world. I'm on chapter six right now, but so far Clarice and Dana seem so alive. The Inception fic I'm reccing is called "Fallout" and it's a worthy sequel to the film, I swear. I'm not saying you should read the fics (or watch the rest of Hannibal) right away, but store 'em away for the future? Please consider.

[Cleo's recaps honor the show very much. She once mentioned in an A Matter Of Taste podcast - the "Aliens" episode, starting at 1h 57min - that her recapping work is extended transcripts of the show with lots of meta knowledge, links and annotations, in fact she's basically writing novelizations of this TV show. Read through her recaps, if not watch the actual thing; she's really captured the essence of the show. (-: ]
