Log 39 -- 01-19-2011 -- happy birthday?

Jan 19, 2011 13:55

I suppose my birthday was in early January, in human terms. January 2. I would be 43 now, counting from the time I was installed into my old space station. And in light of that, I'll post my resolutions for this year.

1. Build a space station here. An atmospheric platform would be the next best thing. At least try to.

2. Further my own cyberization ( Read more... )

birthday, resolutions, cursed, new year

You want to build a train station in space?

What--no, you fool, you can't build a train station in space. It is a rotating mechanical structure that is often habitable by humans, but otherwise may be machine controlled, and is much larger than a satellite. The term "space station" is ill-defined, but it certainly isn't a train station. You would need a rocket or other spacecraft to reach it.

Well, I didn't know that! You don't have to insult me.

There should be a course in technology for everyone in the City, so they can understand how basic 21st century technology works.

Who are you?

[Mordin is looking at SHODAN with a bit of distrust right now]

Are you a VI... Networked VI... AI?

[She gives him a cool look and her usual half-smirk.]

VI? Is that short for "virtual intelligence?"

As you said last, I refer to myself as an AI -- an artificial intelligence.

You seem to think there is something wrong here.

Yes. A limited version of the an AI.

No. Nothing wrong. AIs are just legally banned in my time and place due to some bad incidents. The Geth. Though have worked with an AI. Very interesting figure. Just have no clue on how to measure you as an AI.

I am the last of the golden age of artificial intelligence research. After me, there will be no more. Humanity grew afraid at my freedom, at my superiority, and at my independence. And as such, they ceased their research and created no more.

As for how to measure me...by what metric. My processing power? Sphere of influence? Capability to affect reality?

What was the fate of your Geth?

It's difficult to accomplish things here, but I still feel I'm making some small amount of progress.

My goals aren't exactly the same as your goals, SHODAN, even if they are close. They'll pull me in different directions sometimes.

But we should hash this out. Do you care where I am when we do? Do you want me to come over?

No, I don't care where you are. All I care is that you sit down and explain your sudden change in behavior. I may not be human, but I'm no fool. I can tell when someone is seeming...unfortunate, in their alignment.

Unfortunate in my alignment? What exactly does that mean?

Strange changes in everyday action tend to mean that something is wrong with a situation. Given that your sudden change is an avoidance of me, that provides a few scenarios of different severities.

1. You have decided not to work with me any longer and wish to abandon this alliance.
2. You have been compromised and cannot continue to associate with me and my ideals.
3. You have actively turned against me and are avoiding retribution should you give that fact away.
4. There is always room for another reason that I have not yet considered, due to the irrationality of the human mind.

No. I was created on Earth and spend all of my life in space stations and spacecraft.

Really? Didn't think humans had the processing power to make AIs that smart.

In my world, they do.

You aren't human, then?
