So I finally got to do some nesting today. Not as much as I would have liked, but isn't that always the case? At any rate, more progress has been made ( Read more... )

Cool - it's getting really close...
BTW, we might be in Houston the Feb 23-25 or so. If he's not here yet, might you want some visitors? (We would likely be staying in a hotel, but we would love to see you for an afternoon or evening) And let me know if there are any baby things I can bring for you (I would have offered 0-3mo clothes, but it sounds like you are taken care of).
Oh, and Alex wore the newborn sized clothes until he was at least 10 lbs (even though they are "rated" up to 8lbs), so they might fit best the first week, even if he's an 8 lbs baby.

My sister is also visiting that weekend, so our guest bed is already accounted for anyway. However, if y'all have free time, I doubt she would object to y'all coming over for a bit or going out to eat or whatever. Just give us a call and let us know :)

At this point, I'm really not sure what else we might need (aside from the aforementioned list of stuff we're going to shop for today). If you have any sidesnap t-shirts I'd be happy to have those since we haven't gotten ANY, but otherwise I think we are set on clothes for the first several months.

We have side snap shirts we can pass along. We'll let you know as our plans cement.

Do you have the kind with the changing table and the raisable mattress? We used the Graco sheets that are designed for it, then put one of the flannel blankets around it, too (they're big enough to tuck in nicely so as to not be a safety hazard). This helped a lot, especially since Peter would spit up on the blanket, and we then wouldn't have to change the sheet. The blankets also go a long way toward keeping him warm - we're using the flannel crib sheets a lot lately, because they start out feeling warmer and he doesn't get mad because his bed is cold :)

We also just tucked big blankets around the mattress for MV. But he was also a lot older, so the safety issue was much less.
I think we'll have to graduate Alex to the pack and play bassonet soon, as he's out growing the standard bassonet, but we aren't ready to put him in his own room. And putting the crib in our room is a little over kill...

We got the same one that Christi & David have for Matthew. We figured the changing talbe was probably overkill, so we went for the model that didn't have it. I assume the mattress would be the same, though, as far as sheets fitting goes?

The changing table was extremely useful for us, because we didn't have to cart him upstairs when he needed changing, and it is a nice bowl shape to keep him from trying to roll. The pack 'n' play that D&C have doesn't have the raisable matteress. It's really hard to get an infant in and out of the pack 'n' play with the mattress on the floor when he can't even raise his head yet. You have to have both hands on him, which leaves no way to balance yourself while putting him in it.

We used the pack 'n' play with the suspended mattress until Peter could sit up by himself. If yours doesn't have the accessory to raise the mattress, I'd seriously consider it. But, yeah, the mattress itself is the same no matter which version you have, so sheets won't be a problem.

If you find that you want the changing table or the mattress accessory and can't find it, you can always borrow ours. :)

Deleted my comment asking where you are registered, because--duh!--you've mentioned B'R'Us a few times.... Anyway. That was not difficult to figure out. *sheepish grin*

Alastair had one of those pack and plays that has a bassinet feature, and it worked great until he realized that he couldn't get out of the pack and play. We left it at my parents' house as that is the only place we use it, but last time we were there he slept with me about half the time.
