So I finally got to do some nesting today. Not as much as I would have liked, but isn't that always the case? At any rate, more progress has been made ( Read more... )

Do you have the kind with the changing table and the raisable mattress? We used the Graco sheets that are designed for it, then put one of the flannel blankets around it, too (they're big enough to tuck in nicely so as to not be a safety hazard). This helped a lot, especially since Peter would spit up on the blanket, and we then wouldn't have to change the sheet. The blankets also go a long way toward keeping him warm - we're using the flannel crib sheets a lot lately, because they start out feeling warmer and he doesn't get mad because his bed is cold :)

We also just tucked big blankets around the mattress for MV. But he was also a lot older, so the safety issue was much less.
I think we'll have to graduate Alex to the pack and play bassonet soon, as he's out growing the standard bassonet, but we aren't ready to put him in his own room. And putting the crib in our room is a little over kill...

We got the same one that Christi & David have for Matthew. We figured the changing talbe was probably overkill, so we went for the model that didn't have it. I assume the mattress would be the same, though, as far as sheets fitting goes?

The changing table was extremely useful for us, because we didn't have to cart him upstairs when he needed changing, and it is a nice bowl shape to keep him from trying to roll. The pack 'n' play that D&C have doesn't have the raisable matteress. It's really hard to get an infant in and out of the pack 'n' play with the mattress on the floor when he can't even raise his head yet. You have to have both hands on him, which leaves no way to balance yourself while putting him in it.

We used the pack 'n' play with the suspended mattress until Peter could sit up by himself. If yours doesn't have the accessory to raise the mattress, I'd seriously consider it. But, yeah, the mattress itself is the same no matter which version you have, so sheets won't be a problem.

If you find that you want the changing table or the mattress accessory and can't find it, you can always borrow ours. :)

Our has the mattress accessory....it attaches to the sides of the Pack & Play and the mattress hangs not too far down at all. I'm not too worried about that. :)

Ours has that too, but Liz has just never seen it because Matthew's always been too big for it ;)
Re. Changing table: Usually the ones w/the changing table have a smaller bassonet area & you can't leave the changing table on while the bassonet is being used, so you have to have someplace nearby to put it while the baby is sleeping.
You've seen our changing table set ups, so I'll leave that as our prefered methods :)

I figured it did -- though I couldn't remember if you got the pack and play as a hand-me-down or not and thought maybe if that was the case, whoever gave it to you didn't give you that part. *shrug*

We don't have a good plan for changing the baby while he's living in our room. I'm thinking maybe just putting his changing pad on our dresser will work, though it's not ideal. We don't have a small table like the one you have in your bedroom, and I don't think there's any space to put one elsewhere in our room, either. :( We also may just end up walking over to the nursery and changing him in there...it isn't all that far.
