Today I realized my motivation to workout is at an all time low. This is mostly because of, possibly, my worst character trait: how quickly I get bored and how much I hate being bored. I was on the treadmill the other day doing a 25 minute run and almost stopped 3 times. I wasn’t tired or hurt or anything…I was bored to tears. Running outside ( Read more... )

I can't exercise without music. I know it's not original advice, but listening to music usually works for me.

maybe sign up for something you need to train for? i can see getting bored on the deadmill, which is probably why i prefer bikey-stuff for cardio. however, i'm not a "runner" by far yet & i need to learn, so deadmill it is!

Sounds to me like you're not challenging yourself. You're not tired or hurt...
I know no matter how long I go, I'm never bored because I'm always trying to go faster.

The closest I ever get to being bored is when I'm doing long distances and that's because I'm taking it slower than then usual, and the first hour and a half are too easy.
After I get to a certain point, then it gets less boring because then it's a matter of willing my feet to move at the same pace, the farther I go.

A trick I use for myself when I don't feel like going or if I feel like I might be too tired to go is the 20-minute rule. I will put out the effort to go to the gym, and if after 20 minutes of doing something I still don't feel like being there or I feel too tired, I will leave. I would say that about 75% of the time I will end up feeling better after 20 minutes and stay longer to do other things, but when that 25% happens, I leave and don't feel guilty about it. At least I got there, which is more than most people can say ( ... )
