Now why do I get the feeling you're pissed off? [grin] I do hope I'm not adding to your rage-factor, though.

...Though for the record, if you raged out on Hellenistai at anyone like this, myself included, I'd be too awed by the awesome to be at all offended.

Ah yes, that's right, you're new to my insane little world. :-)

I'm kind of half famous for my angry rants, there are several people here on my friend's list that greatly anticipate my rants at stupid people. I get requests. Seriously.

Don't worry about it, you're one of the new people there that I don't want to grind up for fertilizer. You show promise. And the fact that you'd let me rave like this on the forum and this it was awesome just earns you more points.

Heh, fair enough. My bones are safe, then - won't be ground to make your bread. [grin] Let the insanity continue!

Yeah, what she said. Your posts actually make sense, and you don't ask the same question repeatedly and expect a different answer.

That's a sign that, when the time is ripe, you will be taught the Secret Hellenic Handshake. ;-)

Um, wow. I had to go look, just to see what you were referring to, and just skimmed through the whole shrines thread... wow. "Gee, maybe if I ask this question in 10 different ways, I'll somehow get a more precise answer and not have to think or do anything for myself!" I mean, yeah, some of us know what the gods expect from us, but we didn't find out by asking a bunch of strangers on the interwebs, we simply *practiced* the religion for long enough, and put enough into those spiritual relationships, to eventually figure it out.

Every time I think for a second that maybe I'm missing something by not being on the Hellenic forums/lists, every time I wonder if I should still participate in some way, I see something like this, and remember how very much happier and more relaxed I've been since leaving. Sad, but true.

Believe me, I understand what you mean. If I wasn't the owner of this forum, sometimes I'm tempted to just chuck the whole thing. I guess, on the good side, it took these people to make me appreciate David's posts, in a certain light.

Yeah, and there were people losing their patience on that thread that I have never get very upset at much. I'm really not sure how what I said got translated into "You can't ask any questions, none at all! Come back when you have a PhD" Oh, you have no idea how hard I had to bite my fingers to keep back the biting reply at that "I don't want to argue about this anymore." Just die, please, die already. There is being a newb and being fucking brain dead.

He's right, if you're not willing to put in any real work at all, we don't need you here. I just can't argue with it, even if as a mod I probably should say something... but I just can't do it!

That's the problem with moderating a forum - whether you like it or not, the actions of those in charge reflect on the entire forum, so everything said by a moderator is usually taken to extremes, even if another person could say the exact same thing and people would take it in jest or just let it roll off their backs.

It's a balancing act, really.

It looks like Jeremy is taking a hiatus over this. Sad, really. :-( I mean that.

Believe me, I don't envy the years you and Sarah Kate were running various lists. And I'm sure my apartment walls don't envy yours, either - you strike me as being much taller than 5'2" and with a generally broader forehead than mine.

I can see that, but ultimately I tough it out because of the new people and my firm belief that if it weren't for this forum, the alternative available to them would be infinitely worse, possibly even drive some of them away from the gods.

Better I occasionally lose my patience than "the alternative" constantly condescending everybody and their little dog, too, by telling them how they're doing it wrong and making vague statements about True Hellenismos™ without ever explaining what they mean by that.

Maybe in the future I'll find somebody worthy to carry this project on their shoulders, if only so that I don't have to buy headache meds in bulk.

Yeah, but unlike an Will Ferrel film, your predictability is usually pretty awesome. :-)

Awesome. I went and peeked a few days ago, and yeah. That was the sort of entertaining I'm glad I'm not involved in.

Since you were given links, I imagine you went and checked them out.

You know, I have sympathy for new people, and I think a lot of people can be too hard on them (or throw a flood of information at them in way that, lacking a PhD and a shit ton of insider information, they'd never understand). But oh my gods, some people there is just no talking to them.

All that over whether or not its okay to have a single all purpose altar (and you can have it in a box, you can have it with a fox, you can have it here and there, the gods won't smite you anywhere!) , I'm terrified over what might happen when he asks a question that isn't so simple. It will be endless. O.o
