Believe me, I don't envy the years you and Sarah Kate were running various lists. And I'm sure my apartment walls don't envy yours, either - you strike me as being much taller than 5'2" and with a generally broader forehead than mine.

I can see that, but ultimately I tough it out because of the new people and my firm belief that if it weren't for this forum, the alternative available to them would be infinitely worse, possibly even drive some of them away from the gods.

Better I occasionally lose my patience than "the alternative" constantly condescending everybody and their little dog, too, by telling them how they're doing it wrong and making vague statements about True Hellenismos™ without ever explaining what they mean by that.

Maybe in the future I'll find somebody worthy to carry this project on their shoulders, if only so that I don't have to buy headache meds in bulk.

Well, I guess if you're going to outreach, you must begin at their level. :-)

I would probably focus more efforts into local community if it weren't for the fact that a) I've noticed a distinct lack of local co-religionists and, 2) I hate my location.

It's a coin toss between Chicago and Philadelphia right now, but either way, I have to stick around here because it'll make taking care of certain other things a bit easier on me.

I prefer bigger cities than what the NorthWest has to offer. Sorry.

Philly would put you in the same state as me - on the other end. Still, maybe we could meet in the middle once a year for ritual.

Would also put me in the same state as Pope No-Life. We can start a worship group called Hellenists Against Talking Butt-Plugs! :-D

Where the hell does he live anyway? Somewhere around Pittsburgh?

I'm really not sure about the specifics, but if what you say is true, then I feel sorry for Pittsburgh -- that's a really gorgeous city at night. I'm a little more partial to Chicago at night, but Pittsburgh has retained this sort of colonial charm that looks amazing with electric lights.

I want to come in and warn you away from Philly, but considering your comment about actually preferring East Coast cities, I may not need to. I imagine it's a nice enough place for people to live if they get to live where in the city they want and can get around the way they want to. I, for one, hated it, and was so very happy to leave. For a city its size I expected it to stay open later and be more pedestrian-friendly than it actually was. Of course, if I actually *liked* large cities, it might have been a different story. And, the history is pretty cool. And, I do miss the east coast attitude where people respect the personal bubble space and aren't all up to chatting you up just to hear themselves talk, but even Philly had more of that than MA did.
