[Today, Miyabi had finally made the trip she wanted to make to the ocean to see it for the first time. She had sized herself up for the quick journey via the teleporters (the one Asch and Luke broke should be fixed by now. 8|) but made the journey alone. It wasn't just to enjoy the scenery this time, even if it was beautiful, but to sit and think. ( Read more... )

[Ammy had been busy roaming the village, checking out the people and seeing if they need any help, when the gull swooped in close to her. She stopped in her tracks and stared up at it, ignoring the urge to jump up and give it a nip. She had a feeling that it had a message for her.

Sure enough, once it landed in front of her, it told her Miyabi's message. The wolf nodded, then turned and ran out towards the ocean. She sure hoped this company didn't want to swim. Ammy has had bad memories of dealings with the ocean.

Thankfully, Ammy has been here and has explored enough to know that there's a teleporter, otherwise it'd take her quite a while to get there. With how fast she already is, it only takes a few minutes for her to step out of the fort at the beach and look down the sandy shore. Is her company nearby?]

[Indeed that company is near by! Miyabi's laying in the shade of a tree, far from the swell of the ocean. It's a lot cooler there than in the blistering sun, after all. The poncle isn't built for such temperatures, more accustomed to the frigid temperatures of the frozen north than heat like this.

She has her eyes closed, so Miyabi doesn't see the wolf come close at all. All she seemed to want to do was sleep, or relax in the sun and forget about everything else.]

[Oh, what. She came all the way here and the person who's asking for her is asleep?

Ammy walks on over to her, though she hurries her steps since the sand is hot and the traction is poor against against her paws. Once she reaches her, she gives her a good stare for a moment.

Now. Should she poke her or headbutt her.]

[You better not headbutt her unless you want to get wet, mutt. B|

Thankfully, though, neither will have to happen. Miyabi can sense something close to her after a while, and she opens her eyes, rubbing the exhaustion out of them. She hummed when she saw her goddess face, and reached up to stroke her head affectionately and with a bit of thanks.]

There you are.

[Keimi had finally made it back to the water today. She had to ask for a couple favors to be carried, but after a while she finally made it. She had been swimming in the water for a couple hours now, just relaxing. It felt good to get out of that bed, and while her side still hurt, it was nice to be back in the water.

Give her some time, and eventually she'll notice her friend laying on the sand.]

Miyabi-chin... hey!

[For a second, Miyabi does nothing but open her eyes, but once the voice sinks in, and she realizes who it belongs to, the girl sits up in the sand and looks around. Keimi was back already?! She looked pretty bad from what Miyabi saw of her from the hospital when she went to visit Luke a few times, so it was good to see her back in good health.]

Keimi? [She spies the mermaid off in the shallows and hurries to meet her. Thank goodness she had dressed in something more fitting for the beach - a bathing suit and a colorful wrap she tied around her hips - so she wasn't afraid of getting wet.] I didn't know you got out of the hospital already! I'm so glad to see you're okay!

[It doesn't take more than a few minutes for Issun to respond with his usual rapid, angular handwriting, lacking every bit of the fluidity from his paintings.]

Count me in. Anything's got to be better than sitting around and waiting until nightfall!

[In fact, if Miyabi's paying attention, she might also spot a few sketches of star constellations and bamboo stalks dotting the page's borders. Issun never met a festival he didn't like except maybe that sacrificial one.]

[Pfft, that writing is definitely Issun's. She doesn't need a picture or a voice to confirm it. And--oh! That's right. It was tanabata today, wasn't it? She'd completely forgotten! In her desire to be as far away from everyone and everything, Miyabi had forgotten about the date and the festival.

Hm...maybe a wish wouldn't be so bad to make. And perhaps...]

We can spar or paint until nightfall, then you can teach me how to make stars!

[Miyabi had always wanted to learn that. Painting a star in the sky was perhaps the hardest thing to do - for her at least. Harder even than some of the brush skill themselves.]

Stars?

[If amusement could be conveyed through writing, Issun's would be dripping with it - creating a star in the sky was both the first "drawing" he'd ever done for Ammy, and the first Celestial power she'd ever shown him.]

Don't tell me you're aiming for the power of the gods, too? In that case, let the magnificent Issun take you under his wing!

[Oh, thank goodness the audio wasn't on. The snort Miyabi just produced would have easily set Issun off like a ripe cherry bomb. Just like him to think so highly of himself... She was glad for that reminder, that some people don't change.]

I know a few of their skills already, but if you can teach me more, I'd be honored to call the magnificent Issun my teacher!

[The sarcasm, can you feel it?]

Well, here I like taking care of the flowers, but playing with all that snow sure sounds fun!

[Ah, voice. Miyabi's hesitant to vocalize a response, especially with someone who knows her well enough to know something wrong, but eventually she clicks on the audio.]

I miss the snow. [Among other things.] ...This heat's not something I'm used to. It's really bad today, especially.

Hopefully it will cool down soon.

[Your question alone can make Vash guess there's something wrong.] Feeling a little homesick?

[Hopefully indeed. It's amazing she didn't melt by now. Though a year and a half to get used to the climate change may have helped somewhat.]

...I guess so, a little. [A lot. And there was a whole lot more.] I'll be fine though. So, please, don't worry.

I liked curling up with a good book and a cup of tea. Sometimes I played the piano when I could.

[Oh, that sounded heavenly. And mush like what Miyabi would do at home sometimes as well, though the stories she was used to were told out loud, in groups. And if a story was written, it was short, and on a scroll. But before she can say anything, curiosity takes hold.]

Piano? [That's the thing at Sanji's restaurant, right? ...The thing Brook played...] Can you still play it?

Reply

[Written] shadedsunlight July 8 2011, 02:38:07 UTC
Yes, I still can, though I might be a bit rusty. Are there pianos around? [She assumes there'd have to be at least one around if Chopin is here, but she doesn't want to assume too much.]

There's one at the restaurant, Seventh Heaven. That's the only one I know of that's free to use, but the restaurant is closed down as far as I can remember. Just for a little while. [Which is kind of upsetting. Miyabi has a lot of fun hanging out there and cooking with Sanji when she can.]
