Here's a cake I made for a fellow grad student for passing his qualifying exam (The qual is your "official" entrance into the PhD program where you propose your research ideas for the next 3-4 years of your life to your committee of three profs. Good for organizing everything but a bit stressful and always calls for celebration afterwards!)

Hope everyone had a great New Year's. Stacey- can't wait for your awesome photography skills and pics of NY. I went to an Assyrian party this year and had a blast! A good amount of my dad's side of the family was there and I actually ran into people I knew (not family). I had no idea I knew that many Assyrians- hahah. What cake to make for the party Stacey and I had this past weekend? Well, we were mostly doing it to welcome the first years to Stanford to pretend that PhD students actually have lives. And since a lot of people in the cancer bio department work with mice and models of human cancer, I made a mouse... with cancer.
