Chores

Now that Smiles is old enough that she should be doing chores (thanks for the reminder, remcat) I realized that a lot of things I want her to do EVERYONE in my household should be doing. (I mean my upstairs household, eowyns and 76trombones. Your chores are your own problem.) So I have made a list.

That's a good idea to put down the assumptions on paper. I think I generally have the same as yours, but I add "don't be lame about emptying the dishwasher" to that too.

That makes sense. For sanity in figuring out where things go we mostly have one person in charge of unloading the dishwasher.

The place each of us puts all our crap when we come into the house, and also where other people put our stuff when they're cleaning something else up.

For me my desk, but actually the whole office
For R his bookshelves in the living room/his computer desk
For Angie her (deep) shelf in the china cabinet
For Susan her desk, but actually the whole house :)

Heh. Yes, the whole apartment being my drop zone is problematic. I do at least sort a bit, but a major round of putting-away is in order.

On the parenting front I also want to teach Smiles the skills for HOW to keep her room clean. So it's a particularly murky area. My hope is that if she learns the skills now I can let her do whatever she wants when she is a bit older.

I find your dish system confusing, since there's this random pileup that supposedly means something?

It means A needs to unload the dishwasher.
