Cheap, vegan...and trying to build muscle, UGH

So I've been in a slightly heavy duty weight training regimen for the last four months, on a three week break right now after which it will start up again for another two months. In the meantime I'd like to fine tune my diet because I'm pretty sure I have NOT been getting the calories and protein that I need to get the most out of the program ( Read more... )

I used to use Sparkpeople religiously, I don't recall them having a lot of useful tips for people wanting to build muscles without eating meat. But thanks for the first link!

How much protein are you trying to get? I use The Daily Plate, it helps me keep track of how much protein I'm consuming. You'd probably be surprised at how much protein you are already eating. I follow a similar diet and am also on an intense weight training regiment, and get a sufficient amount of protein without having to use protein shakes or supplements. My trainer kept pushing shakes and protein supplements, so I showed her my breakdown to convince her that I didn't need anything. I think a lot of people just assume that vegans don't get enough protein when that isn't always the case.

I usually buy protein powder and just shake it up with ice and soy milk (no blender required!).

Another good place to x-post this would be in gymrats.

advocados, coconut, dried fruits and nuts- All calorie dense, and yummy!
