The little boy sat on the edge of the bench, watching the man selling balloons longingly.

Curious, and a sucker for small children, K’tanya walked over to him. "Is everything okay?"

He looked up at her. "I lost my balloon, and I don’t have any money left."

"Is that all?" She took the boy by the hand and proceeded to buy him one of every color.

Grinning, the boy thanked her before walking a little ways off, then letting go of the balloons and watching as they floated up and away.

"What did you do that for?"

"Mine was lonely."

Prompt #39 ~ Superstition (21 of 100)

Some people touch wood; others hang horseshoes above their doorstep. Alice has a bracelet.

It may seem like an ordinary charm-bracelet, but it really isn't. Fairly recently, Alice discovered vampires and other supernatural beings exist-in certain universes. She quickly employed the charm-bracelet given on her seventeenth Christmas (silver, with her birthstone), and is filling the links with protective things.

The "perfume" bottle was filled at the Cathedral font (who would begrudge the Dean's youngest daughter?); malachite is known for its protective qualities; and a cross, of course. (Ada gifted Alice a lucky four-footed-rabbit; Lorina, a clover.)

It's her talisman.
