Marilyn and I just watched an old favorite of ours, the movie "Spartacus," with a stellar cast that includes Kirk Douglas (as Spartacus), Laurence Olivier (as Marcus Crassus), Jean Simmons (as Varinia), Charles Laughton (as Gracchus), Peter Ustinov (in his Academy Awarding role as Batiatus) and Tony Curtis (as Antoninus) -- to name only a few. Wow, that takes me back. I haven't seen that one in decades. I didn't even know about the "new" scene.

Yeah, Frank, they did a re-release in 1993 after adding back the oyster and snails scene. (They had to have Anthony Hopkins dub Olivier's voice, because Laurence Olivier died in 1989.)

Basically the censors cut it in 1960 -- way too sexual (and Crassus is pretty clear that he prefers men to women).

I don't even know how many times I've seen this movie in my life. But it's been years since I read the book...

How fun to watch that movie. It was a super good one. I have not seen it in years. I hope I can feel better today, yesterday felt pretty low. I am trying to get the house cleaned this week.

I hope you're feeling better, sweet sister! Sorry you're not doing well...

Yeah, it's a great movie! I don't know if we kept the VHS tape, or not (???).
