Tis the season to be blah?

Man, I need to take a break I think from some of the reading and research I've been doing and read something light-hearted for a while tomorrow. Reading personal accounts of living in Nazi Germany is just overwhelming sometimes - it always shocks me, the depths of cruelty that human beings are capable of towards each other. When I embarked on this ( Read more... )

"No progress on the comic script, partially because I feel really pressured to finish it, which in turn makes me really avoidant of it as a source of stress."

But when you start reading personal accounts and getting into trying to understand the mentality that allowed such madness to happen - it's just overwhelming at timesThe bigger issue is that, psychologically, humanity has a tendency to follow the leader, no matter how evil the leader may be ( ... )

I find the Holocaust really interesting, and have studied it extensively. I don't know how it could possibly have happened, and it's horrifying to think that this is something people are capable of, without any thought, any conscience to the impact they are having on a race, on humans. Hey, if you don't like working under deadlines, you can always become an unpaid contributor like me! I can drag a 6-month project out for 3 years and still not get fired. Admittedly, this is a lousy way to run a business, but it results in fewer bad feelings because it keeps expectations very low.

I forgot to also mention that we are working on what is potentially the biggest deadline of all. It's entirely possible that when we become parents, Dandelion Studios will die an abrupt and very final death. Our decisions in the meantime are reflective of that. This is why paid commissions come with strict deadlines. Unpaid commissions, should we ever involve ourselves in them, would theoretically involve less risk and therefore less pressure.

This April might be our last SPACE expo ever. Scary thought! How can we help developing a 'now or never' approach to publishing comics with that kind of finality looming over us?
