November Challenge Meme, part 11

Nov 24, 2015 08:45

Ok, this one is a few days late. Sometimes stuff happens. But no matter, the meme must go on! Also, there's still time to get another entry or two in if you're feeling adventurous. Go for broke! Make the pie higher!

Meanwhile, germankitty goes all historical and proposes that I discuss JFK and whatever legacy he left behind in my opinion.

Dammit, Jim, he's dead. )

Iiiiiiiinnnnnnnteresting! Thanks!

Strangely enough, the BBC's "Antiques Roadshow" last Sunday showed a leather jacket worn by JFK in the 1950s; he left it with a French girl he had an affair with on the Côte d'Azure barely a month before he got married to Jacqueline Bouvier. Estimated auction value: $200,000 - $300,000!

Now that's a legacy I could get behind!

(Oh, and I prefer my Berliner with an eggnog-custard filling, please!)

Hahaha, "I am a jelly donut"! How could I forget one of his finest blunders?

Actually, "Ich bin ein Berliner" is totally correct German. It's just that "Berliner" not only means an inhabitant of Berlin, but also a jelly donut ... at least in part of the country. Down South, they call that tpe of pastry "Krapfen", and so may not have got the joke. ;-)

JFK also revealed to the whole world what a flaming piles of assholes the City of Dallas is.

He left lots of good sounds bites, most famously "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." I really like his 1962 speech at Rice University when he announced the goal of putting a man on the moon

"Shot In The Headsville", Texas's new least favorite city.

I did forget about his quality soundbites. And, of course, "Happy Birthday... Mr. President."
