Ok, this one is a few days late. Sometimes stuff happens. But no matter, the meme must go on!
Also, there's still time to get another entry or two in if you're feeling adventurous. Go for broke! Make the pie higher!
Meanwhile,
germankitty goes all historical and proposes that I discuss JFK and whatever legacy he left behind in my opinion.
JFK
Let's be frank here: history is not my strongest suit. I am not a master of past facts and events and scenarios and historical incidents and what not. Not for my own country, or the world at large. That's just me.
Still, JFK (John F. Kenndy, former President of the USA, for those who might be historically challenged like myself) was iconic enough that even a relatively ignorant fool like myself knows who he was and what he did. So, let's have some JFK knowledge.
1) Space. JFK wanted the USA to go to space. He pushed for the success of NASA and for America to win the Space Race against Russia. And while he never got to see any episodes of Star Trek, I know in my heart that he would have had a secret love for that show. I think many American achievements in space can be dedicated to JFK's influence. Even if it was primarily for the purpose of doing stuff before those commie Russkies did it, it still worked out.
2) I believe JFK still holds the world record for fastest talker. I feel bad for his interpreters. Especially ASL interpreters. "MY FINGERS OH GOD THEY BUUUURRRRNNNNN"
3) His assassination was an historical moment in current American history. While other US Presidents have been killed in office, most of them are unknown, and only Lincoln holds similar status to JFK in this regard. They were popular because they led during difficult times and made difficult choices. Perhaps those choices were their undoing.
4) That accent. Oh man, that accent.
5) He left us with a family of rich snooty types. This was not his finest gift to mankind. Also, his brother followed in his footsteps, so to speak. Flawless victory: Fatality.
6) He also left us with Lyndon B. Johnson, who did a lot of good for the country in terms of civil rights and helping the poor, but he also contributed heavily to the Viet Nam War and all the failures implicit therein. So, both good and bad. It's hard to top the guy who stood up to the Cuban Missile Crisis, after all.
7) ...nope, that's probably all I've got, aside from the classic "What do you get if you cross JFK with Kurt Cobain? A complete skull! *rimshot*". Yeah, I'm done here.
TL;DR version: JFK was doing great until someone shot him. Then his presidency suffered a decline.
