And Now, The Olympics

Aug 11, 2008 10:21

Me, talk about sports? How radical! And yet, the Olympics are sports like no other sport. Except the sports that are in the Olympics. Or something. Anyway, blah blah, let's discuss.

I think I said this two years ago, but hell, I'm nothing if not predictable. )

Astrida and I hav e been getting around the LOOKIT ME TALK ME GOT MICROFOWN bullshit by watching the Olympics on Spanish channels. They only chatter during events and since we ca barely understand them, we can tune them out.

I'm with you: more obscure sports, less bullshittery.

Even the Spanish channel shows the same boring jibbajabba sports. There's just less montage crap.

Is it too much to ask to let us watch the taekwondo guys beat the hell out of each other? Boxing gets coverage, why not TKD?

Bush was pretty funny when he said that, heh.

His solution to Chinese Communist tyranny: convert 'em. "Because when religion takes hold it never leaves." Except, like, the Communist revolution there.*

* Yes, they in reality replaced worship of abstract gods with worship of The State. But still.

And, as Bush said about 79 times, "We need to keep ourselves ENGAGED with the Chinese." All that engagement and we still haven't gotten a ring yet. Or a pre-nup. Something.

Heh. Here in Germany, one of THE best commentaries during the opening ceremony was made about good ol' Dubya. When the Guam team marched in, the camera showed Mr. and Mrs Bush in the bleachers, explaining that Guam (like Costa Rica) was a American protectorate and that Bush thus was also the President of Guam.

Next, they wondered why the heck he didn't get up to wave when Guam marched in ... and the co-commentator innocently remarked, "Maybe Laura forgot to tell him he had to."

*snicker*

Bush probably doesn't support the Guamish Religion. Or maybe he doesn't like the taste of Guami bears.

(like Costa Rica)

I think you meant Puerto Rico. Costa Rica is most definitely its own country. We don't want it. ;-)

It's ok, you're still my favoritest Guambat ever. chaosvizier August 11 2008, 17:23:54 UTC
Guam needs to rename its official prison to Guamtamano Bay. ;-)

Or, as Luke Skywalker once said, "I used to bulls-eye Guamp Rats back home in Beggar's Canyon. They're not much bigger than two meters."
