Number 66 on my 101 in 1,001 Days list was entering a lingerie shop--alone--and buying something for darthcynthiaNow, I know that's no biggie for a lot of guys. But I've always been very shy when it comes to the thought of entering a woman's store to buy the very things from the ads that helped me get through puberty ( Read more... )

Yay for you Chris! That's very brave - must guys would be totally tongue-tied in that situation.

Next time you go you should ask the sales girl if there's a dressing room where you can try on your selection before you purchase it... ;)

Hahahahahahahahaha...yeah, I should have asked if they had anything see through that would fit me.

I've decided if I ever encounter a shy guy in the place who looks lost, I'll help him...and when he says he's doing it for his girlfriend, say, "Oh, Honey--I shop here for my act...I thought I was helping shop for you, manchunk!" and watch him freak.

And how are the other items on your list coming along?

I did #54 on your list last year...and I'm very glad I did!

The other items are coming along slowly. I guess I need to update my list.

I've determined which items I can knock out easily, and will tackle those first.

With To Kill a Mockingbird and Catcher in the Rye...they're two books I know I'm "supposed" to have read by now, so I figured this is an excuse to read them.

There are a lot of books I "should" have read by now, but haven't.

I've always had a bad habit of wandering into a store and buying something I never heard of, but seemed interesting.

Not that I think it's a bad habit--I've found some great books and writers that way :)

This is so ironic of a post today... today I went to the mall, and saw a bunch of sale signs in Victoria's Secret. I wanted to get something cute for a friend (because nothing in that store will ever fit meeee), so I went in.

And: my feelings of being in there, surrounded by cute little women, parallels yours. Of course, I don't tower OVER them; I just have double the girth. :)

That list intrigues me. But I wouldn't even know where to start. I do, however, have a book entitled "101 things to do before you're 40," given to me by a friend. Subtle. :)

Well, with me weighing in at just under 300 pounds, I'm sure I outweighed most people in the store by three times :)

I would probably cringe at the 101 Things to Do Before 40.

I'm sure I'd have 101 things to do in the next two years...

The really funny part of your shyness in the Victoria's Secret store is that probably 95% of those women were thinking, "I wish my guy had the stones to come here and get me something to surprise me with." Women appreciate men making the effort to get things right -- you get bonus points for that, you know.

That's what made it easy. I figured a lot of nice guys are shy about it, but that effort has to be impressive because there were no guys in the store.

And other guys think, "She should be coming home with that stuff for me!" and won't set foot in the store.

If my shy ass can do it, any guy can. Any grins I got really seemed like, "That's sweet...he's getting something for his sweetie..." grins.

So...what'd ya get her? ;) curtishart July 3 2007, 00:06:52 UTC
Yea, going into these places is...weird to say the least. I think if I was to do something like this, I would go to a mall with one miles away where I live so on the offhand chance I don't run into anyone I know.

Granted I bet 99% of all guys buy that kind of stuff for their ladies online now.

If I ran into somebody I knew, that would have probably made it easier. I could have joked, "Oh, just buying myself this hot pushup bra I've wanted. I was gonna buy something a bit more sultry, but they didn't have it in the color I wanted, so I'll have to get that from the Web site."

But instead, I stood in the store holding my man boobs when verifying I was buying the correct sexy bra...

Still...it's something off the list...
