I'm really liking this. I like 'boss' Jayne. I like that he's so damn stubborn (much like our captain) and won't sit back and heal. This looks to be very interesting.

I think the need to step up to the plate and be 'on task' makes these people really shine. I think that is true of the whole crew actually. Jayne wouldn't do what he is doing now if someone else was doing it. And I believe he has definitely grown since The Train Job where having him in any position of power at all was a mistake. I watched the series and the film and saw development of responsibility in Jayne. He realized his place on Serenity was one that required more than just being a dumb brute. And of course, serious s*(t happened after Miranda that made him change a whole lot more >;0)

Jayne's a force of nature. alexis_laforge January 28 2007, 06:38:24 UTC
But, then again, so's River. I must say you've made me so excited for the next part! This Mr. Cairo character seems like an unabashedly bad hombre, but, well, J+R=destruction on levels unheard of since the Visigoths got past Rome's offensive line. Okay, terrible joke. In any event, good on you, and I'm excited for the next part.

I like that characterization of him/them (Force of Nature) And J+R=Destruction, hell yeah! Especially when they work together with a communication that has dawned on neither one (Gotta love some of the mysteries given us by the Academy >;0) )

Love the Visigoths breaking the Roman's offensive line joke! Course, I had to stop myself from weeping just a little bit since the Patriots just got their asses whupped by the Colts in just that fashion...Sigh.

Glad you are looking forward to the next ssection...*Gotta go write it, gotta go write it*

As a former offensive lineman... alexis_laforge January 30 2007, 04:28:17 UTC
and as a current fan of history, the joke just seemed appropriate. Also was a nose-guard. Much more fun.

I can't wait for the next installment. These are real gems.

I love these little snippets of life you insert in your comments. They make me smile and chuckle as I try to create a three dimensional image of you... which is funny in that that is exactly what is this story is doing with River and Jayne.

So, indeed, Visigoths, full charge!

Mr Cairo sounds like a real bad ass and I'm worried for our two.

The glimpse into Jayne's backstory here is very interesting and I like that the crew are finally seeing him. I love the last section with River and Jayne arguing and the final lines were wonderful!

More please? *bats eyelids*

*She batted her eyes at us tehe* *Swirling happily*

Mr. Cairo is not a nice man. More I will not say. No matter how much you beg. But, as Alexis noted, J+R=Force of nature.

Indeed loving the revealing of Jayne as he himself finds things out he may not want to about himself. (Is that as convoluted sounding as I think it is?)

Last lines just came that way, saw them clearly in the cargo bay, moving in each other's space, feeling out the limits. Very interesting, teeny, tiny moment.
