Jayne's a force of nature. alexis_laforge January 28 2007, 06:38:24 UTC
But, then again, so's River. I must say you've made me so excited for the next part! This Mr. Cairo character seems like an unabashedly bad hombre, but, well, J+R=destruction on levels unheard of since the Visigoths got past Rome's offensive line. Okay, terrible joke. In any event, good on you, and I'm excited for the next part.

I like that characterization of him/them (Force of Nature) And J+R=Destruction, hell yeah! Especially when they work together with a communication that has dawned on neither one (Gotta love some of the mysteries given us by the Academy >;0) )

Love the Visigoths breaking the Roman's offensive line joke! Course, I had to stop myself from weeping just a little bit since the Patriots just got their asses whupped by the Colts in just that fashion...Sigh.

Glad you are looking forward to the next ssection...*Gotta go write it, gotta go write it*

As a former offensive lineman... alexis_laforge January 30 2007, 04:28:17 UTC
and as a current fan of history, the joke just seemed appropriate. Also was a nose-guard. Much more fun.

I can't wait for the next installment. These are real gems.

I love these little snippets of life you insert in your comments. They make me smile and chuckle as I try to create a three dimensional image of you... which is funny in that that is exactly what is this story is doing with River and Jayne.

So, indeed, Visigoths, full charge!

OL is perfectly thankless alexis_laforge January 30 2007, 05:14:55 UTC
Like so many of life's little endeavors. Still. It's a necessary thing, on a football team (and metaphorical offensive linemen are necessary in other places), and I was bigger and stronger than most of the other fellows. Led to me eating more grass than a cow, though.

Impressions that create multidimensional images... oh, dear me. That's the soul of perception, I think.

OL is definitely Jayne's forte...and he is indeed getting to eat a lot more grass than he really wants to.

I love your turn of phrase, I am tempted to insert it in the tales as I go, oftimes because it so beautifully expresses my meaning!

Probably why I identify with Jayne some. alexis_laforge January 30 2007, 05:29:57 UTC
Mal's a quarterback. Definitely the center of attention, and Zoe's a fullback. More of a workhorse, but she still gets to carry the ball some. Only time that Jayne gets to touch the ball is if he happens to fall on it during a fumble, unnoticed unless he screws up.

Oh, I do so love being quoted!

But man if he grabs that fumble and makes it to the goal line, boy does everyone notice! And Zoe will definitely notice! >;0) Course, Jayne won't actually want her to mention it or anything, because that means Mal will get all curious like...But you didn't hear it from me >:0)

Looking forward to it. alexis_laforge January 31 2007, 04:21:01 UTC
Definitely looking forward to seeing where you take the metaphor from here.

Sounds like a nice night. alexis_laforge February 1 2007, 04:20:13 UTC
Shooting the bull with Jayne, Jack and a particularly large Cuban. Well, in a rough-around-the-edges, clap on the back sort of way.
