I was called for jury service once, it was the day after I was given notice of redundancy. My employer wrote to the court and got me off.

I was on a three month's notice period during which time there is a legal requirement to assist in seeking work. If I had done jury service the government would have paid me but I would have been disadvantaged as I would not have been able to look for a new job. If any trial had continued into the period where I had no job, then I would not have been paid at the same rate as my employment rate as I would not be missing out on paid work, however this would have technically left me out of pocket and was the reason my employer blocked it for me.
