HAPPY VOTING DAY!!!

Let's hope this will be a turning point for us here in the US and the chance to have some faith in the common sense and good judgment of our fellow citizens. I was about to lose hope but now I have some stirrings of confidence that perhaps we are not doomed ( Read more... )

I voted on this cold, damp November day. :-) There have been some very shady things happening regarding vote supression in VA as of last night. It will be interesting to find out further details on that.

Well, it was a mild, fine day here and I waltzed into the school building and voted without nary a problem--it was almost too easy but I was so happy to do it and to make my small but significant voice heard.

But as I was walking out, behind me was a young man with long hair in a pony tail. Very young--it must have been his first election. And I couldn't help but consider that if the war-mongers have their way, young men like him will eventually be drafted and become unwilling canon-fodder for the war machine of Bush or the like. I do hope he defended himself against that possibility. But I couldn't help but think that it was so much more important to young men like him--like, life-and-death-important. I wish him the best and hope that he never has to kill or die for the likes of Bush and Rumsfeld.

Hobbled my way into my polling place at noon today and voted on the old familiar machines we've had since I started voting 33 years ago -- have voted in every single election save one local one when I was in the hospital. If ya don't vote, you've absolutely no right to complain -- that's how I view it -- yes, it's a right and a privilege -- but, more importantly, it's a duty

YAYAY for the folks who vote!!

Good for you!

I actually voted with a paper ballot and a real ink pen. Fill in the blank ovals! I gotta tell ya that I felt more secure that way and although I am the world's strongest proponent of electronic communications and all the modern ways, when it comes to voting, I know that that piece of tangible paper is THERE and can be counted over and over again without any ambiguity. I much prefer this to a button that is pushed and who the hell knows where that data goes or who can manipulate it.

I also have to say that the people maintaining the voting site where such lovely folk, older and wiser and honest. I am confident that my vote got counted because I trusted them completely. To me they are the heart of our democracy. They really care and no one will come between them and my vote.
