You can't get too much winter in the winter.

Jack Frost was minding his own business, freezing a lake in northern Canada hard enough for skating, when the storm swept through. He tried to grab onto a tree, but the upper branches of the nearest pine tree were thin and bendy and the needles prickle as they slip through his fingers. Then he's caught in the whirlwind, helpless to escape or even ( Read more... )

Hisoka is hiking out to his boat-building shed to see if it is intact -- and whether it is or not, he will need the tools in there, so that he and others can start building shelters for the survivors. He doesn't get very far away from the wrecked house, though, before he feels Jack's breeze approaching.

[Not sure where Hisoka would fall? He is still a shinigami, so he has magic himself, and can see things others cannot. On the other hand, I don't think he specifically believes in Jack Frost, though he's probably familiar with him through his study of English literature. What do you think? Okay if he can't see him. That actually might be kinda fun.]

Jack spots HIsoka and wafts closer curiously, If there's people around either the damage to the house must be recent, and he wonders how last night's storm could have caused that much destruction. Maybe if he follows the guy he'll be able to figure out what's going on.

[[Well, as a shinigami he can see dead people, yeah (familiarity alone wouldn't be enough, it's belief)? So I'd think he could probably see him. Unless you'd prefer him not to see. But I'd be inclined to say yes, he'd be able to see Jack.]]

Wait. there is something...almost alive about this breeze, or...on this breeze. Hisoka stops and peers into the wind. He thinks he sees a face, and then he's sure he sees a face...blue hair whipping about it in the wind....

Is this a spirit? A dead person hanging about? But he doesn't think it's anybody he knows.

He clears his throat. "Hello?" he says, squinting into the blast of air.

[How about if we go with kind of seeing him, at first, and then Jack becomes clearer as they interact? Hisoka would certainly believe in anything he could perceive, even partially.]

Jack pauses in surprise when Hisoka calls out, and looks around to see who he's talking to. Only there isn't anyone else, just him. He floats down in front of Hisoka, peering into his face.

He's not expecting that Hisoka might be talking to him.

[Sounds like a good plan to me!]

Alphonse doesn't feel the cold, and he doesn't feel the wind, but winter is still usually an enjoyable time for him. He's out right now, gathering supplies to help people rebuild, and trying to maintain a cheerful attitude. It's not really working very well...

(Well, Al is technically a spirit in his own way? I don't know if that would count, but it might be fun either for him to see Jack or for Jack to try and get a reaction out of a suit of armor...)

That is a walking suit of armor. That's probably the weirdest thing that Jack has ever seen, and he's been around for quite a while now and seen plenty. He decides to follow the armor around for a bit and see what it's doing, and if he can figure out how it's doing anything.

(I'd say that as a spirit, if you want him to see Jack he probably could? But if you'd rather him not be able to see Jack, that's fine to.)

Alphonse pauses in his wood gathering when he catches something out of the corner of his vision.

"Hello? Um... Did you need some help?"

(I think I'm going to copy Hisoka and go with 'sees, then sees better after introductions are made'. Since Jack Frost as a myth doesn't exist in his world. If that's alright?)

"No." Walking, talking suit of armor. That's so weird. He wracks his brain but he doesn't remember ever hearing of anything like that before. And it can see him, but it's a walking talking suit of armor, why shouldn't it? It reminds him just a little of Bunny's stone egg soldiers. "I'm Jack. Who are you?"

(Sounds like a plan!)

Definitely magical, and definitely a critter: she's walking through the fallen snow, a green scarf around her neck, levitating a bundle of fir branches, getting ready for Hearth Warming Night, the Equestrian winter festival.

First it was independently mobile suits of armor, now it's unicorns who can levitate things. Sure why not. But a magical creature like her, she must be able to see him, right?

He rides a gust of wind down to land lightly on the snow near her, not leaving a footprint. "Hi."

She'll look up, a bit startled by that sudden approach and the fir branches might bobble a bit in mid-air. "Oh, hello there," she says. "Are you new here? I don't think we've met before."

"Yeah...just blew in last night," he quips. "Nice to meet you, I'm Jack. Can't say I've ever met a unicorn before.

Merlin's made a makeshift shelter out of snow for those who might need it - the ill, the weak, the wounded. He's working on making that as solid as he can, and might welcome the sprite's aid in that endeavour.

Why yes, he's making an igloo! Anyone else you'd like me to send?

Igloo! Jack likes igloos. He circles it, pleased to see that it looks nice and sturdy. He's not paying much attention to the man building it as he puts a hand on the side of it, intending to freeze the outside of it just a little harder.

Anyone you like? Idk. XD

Movement in the corner of his eye gets Merlin's attention, and so he smiles a little upon spotting the sprite.

"Well, hello, you."

Jack looks back at him, then looks over his shoulder to see who the man is talking to. Seeing no one, he turns back to stare at Merlin. it certainly looks like he's looking at Jack, but while Hisoka could see him, it still seems like an impossibility. He slowly raises a hand to point at himself. "...Me?"

Shadow is playing in the snow. It's not like it takes much to keep the puppy entertained and right now he's chasing birds and rabbits and squirrels all over the open field in ear-and-eye shot of the big house and his pack. A howl will get anybody running so he feels safe enough to go nose first after a rabbit that's trying to get back down it's hole.

He's not hunting and isn't looking to eat anything, it's just a game.

Jack laughs when he sees the puppy chase after the rabbit and wafts along on the breeze after him to see whether he gets the bunny, or the bunny escapes. He'd bet on the rabbit, though...if only because he's on first name terms with the Easter Bunny. He doesn't realize yet that there's anything unusual about this little wolf pup, though.

Shadow pops up out of the burrow he'd been digging down and barks, clearly happy even though the rabbit has gotten away. He spots the stranger and will cock his head curiously, before barking again.

You don't smell human... you smell like winter... and that's interesting enough to not cause Shadow any fear.

Jack grins and crouches down toward the puppy's level. He likes animals, they see so many things that humans do not. "Hey there, little guy. Did you lose your rabbit?"
