The Stuff Life is Made Of, 4/5

Donna approached the door with some trepidation, worried about how quickly the Doctor had decided their destination. She’d had her concerns about travelling anywhere in the TARDIS; he’d reassured her that no one would miss them from the back garden in the middle of the night, and they’d be back before the sun rose. She certainly hoped he was right.

Aiiiiieeeeeeee. Hubris, thy name is Doctor. And really, it's such a Doctor thing to do: to assume, to jump in, to rush ahead without thinking.

[pause]

I think that if Rose lets him live after this, he'll have learned his lesson.

Another great chapter--I love how Donna's needling him the whole time about waiting until after he's gone back to get Rose, but then at the end, she's by his side, giving him the support he needs.

I feel so badly for the Doctor right now. He just can't seem to get anything right, but he means well.

Dear Ten, he most assuredly meant well. It's just poor luck that things went a bit...sideways.

Poor Ten: his (prolonged) disappearance wasn't at all on purpose, yet it still had serious repurcussions.

As for Donna, we tend to think of her as the kind of best friend you'd always want--willing to speak her mind and tell you when you're being an idiot, but always there for you when things get rough.

Wowza.

I can't decided if I think the Doctor is going to try to babble his way out of this or if he's just going to let Rose rip. I guess I'll just have to wait and see, yeah? ;)

And...the international date-line being different was just so simple and brilliant.

AH. *GLEE* Can't wait for the resolution!! :D

;) Indeed you will.

We had discussed, often, how to write the Doctor's disappearance. And then the IDL idea just kind of...blossomed. We're glad you liked it!

I know you all love drunken Compiler posting, so I thought I'd drop by. And the IDL resolution? *Totally* the Poster. She's brilliant, she is.

Its just like the Doctor to do something like that.Decides to do something on a whim because he can't sit still for more than five minutes and have it come back to bit him in the behind.

Lets hope he comes out of the confrontation with Rose unscathed.Perhaps he has learnt he's lesson this time.

Yes, he does seem to have quite the knack for that. There are times where Ten would have no luck at all, if not for the *Bad* luck.

Still in the office tonight! Booo!

But a great chapter - you guys do insight into the Doctor's mind brilliantly. I really want the Doctor's turmoil to push him to tell Rose that he love's her, straight up. But suspect that won't be the case.

Great work. Can't wait for the finale.

Booooo! indeed! It's looking like a long night for the Poster as well...so, commiserations on that.

Thank you! We find Ten to be a delight to write--usually. :)

May you have a lovely evening in your part of the world!

Such drastic consequences for such a small mistake, can't really say its not his fault though. Donna was right monolopy would have been a better way to pass the time.

I like this story, but I do have to say I think it's a bit creepy the way Rose has Torchwood imprison the Doctor rather than, say, simply get him on the phone. That's twice now she's used Torchwood that way.

Your point is well-taken--but we'd like to defend Rose here. In the first instance--in London--it was actually the Doctor who got himself imprisoned, by going off exploring in a secure facility (he wandered off while having tea with Mickey). Granted, Mickey then ensured he stayed in a cell, without his sonic screwdriver...but Rose knew nothing of it until Mickey told her. In the second instance, it was Pete who had the Doctor held in Sydney. By extension you could really lay the blame for the action (if blame you'd like to lay) at Jackie's feet, as it was she who asked Pete to do the worldwide search for the Doctor. Again, Rose did not know of it until after he'd been collected at Taronga and shuttled across the bay.

It's not the nicest thing of Torchwood to be doing to the Doctor; but it's something for which Rose was not responsible.

Good points there -- but I am uncomfortable with the way Rose is leaving him in Torchwood's cells once he is imprisoned. I mean, why does she jet off to Australia once Torchwood has the Doctor instead of just talking to him on the phone? It seems like a bit of over-reaction, and poor Donna, stuck in the cell(s) as well.
