"Man of Steel" casts Jor-El

Jun 19, 2011 12:25

According to Variety, Russell Crowe is in negotiations to take on the role of Jor-El in Snyder's Superman reboot. If he joins, the cast and crew would be able to boast not one, but two, Academy Award winners (Crowe and Kevin "Jonathan Kent" Costner), and seven Oscar nominees (Crowe, Costner, Amy "Lois Lane" Adams, Diane "Martha Kent" Lane, Michael ( Read more... )

Wow, I hadn't really seen anything beyond the Clark, Lois and Martha roles being cast. Kevin Costner playing Jonathan Kent? Wow! I'd watch the movie just for him!

Thanks for all the information; actually looking forward to this one!

Me too! It really surprised me that they're starting production already. I read on some site (I think it was CBS.com, not sure) that one reason they're pushing everything through for a December 2011 release is that Warner potentially could lose the rights to Superman in 2012. I haven't kept up with the copyright disputes, so I don't know if that's true, but given that they seem to be in a hurry, that would make sense. I just hope that they're not so much in a hurry that they end up ruining this.

Thx for commenting! *Hums Superman theme* :)

I just re-read my reply to you and saw I got my dates wrong for the movie. It's actually set for a December 2012 release (not 2011--that would be a little TOO rushed!). The part about Warner potentially losing the copyright is confirmed by Variety (in 2013, not 2012 as I said). Apparently, Warner has to have a film in production by 2013 or risk losing their rights, but if they're already starting production this summer, I'd say their rights are probably safe.

BTW, your icon is adorable!! *Hearts* *g*

I know how you feel, Monica. After the hatchet job Warner's TV division did on Superman, it's hard to get excited about anything Supes-related. But with that cast and with Nolan as producer, they've definitely got a fighting chance to give us back our hero. And hey, look at it this way--they couldn't do worse than SV. :)

Sending tons of hugs back your way, along with lots of good wishes! {{Smishes you}}

I know what you mean, M. I wouldn't touch any project from Souders or Peterson with a ten-foot pole, and while I never watched TVD live anyway, I'm even considering dropping it altogether now that Al Septien's a consulting producer/writer. OTOH, SV *did* have a lot of talent in the early days. And even in the last years, we still had JH and SW. I'll be on the lookout for JH's next project, and as for SW, I haven't checked out "Being Human" yet, but I've heard a lot of good things about it.

Did you watch "Falling Skies" last night? I recorded it, but haven't had a chance to see it yet. I'd appreciate hearing your take. :)

I'm a little worried that the new Superman movie's script and director won't be on par with its stellar cast. Still, Russell Crowe as Jor-El would be amazing. I'm a big fan of his.

Greg Beeman is also involved with Falling Skies. I admit I have no interest in supporting him after that awful SV finale. To be fair, I wasn't interested in Falling Skies anyway, so...
