According to
Variety, Russell Crowe is in negotiations to take on the role of Jor-El in Snyder's Superman reboot. If he joins, the cast and crew would be able to boast not one, but two, Academy Award winners (Crowe and Kevin "Jonathan Kent" Costner), and seven Oscar nominees (Crowe, Costner, Amy "Lois Lane" Adams, Diane "Martha Kent" Lane, Michael "Zod" Shannon, and the Christopher Nolan/Emma Thomas production team that worked on Inception).
Wow. After the massive disappointment that was SV, I'm trying not to get too excited about this, but it's hard to resist the temptation. :)
Interestingly, the story also says that Jor-El is one of the last roles to be cast, but so far I haven't heard anything at all about Lex Luthor. The film's starting production next month, so if he was going to be in the movie, you'd think there would have been a casting announcement by now.
Actually, if Snyder really does intend for his movie to be a complete reboot (as he's stated), this might be a good move. As much as I adored Lex on SV (that is, the "Lex" of S1-7, which imo is when the show really ended), the Supes vs. Luthor storyline has been done to death in the movies. IMO, it's time to bring on a new main villain, and who better than Zod? Bring it, General! *Rubs hands in anticipation*
Has anyone heard any rumors about the plot? I've been Googling around for whispers from any reasonably reliable site, but so far come up dry. (I did see a mention in a Chicago paper about a casting call for extras that piqued my interest, though. It asked for "infant twins," of all things. Hmm.)
In other news, Mark Verheiden has resurfaced as a co-executive producer of the new sci-fi show that debuts tonight, "Falling Skies":
