Lasik?

May 02, 2009 01:30

So, I've been thinking about getting Lasik for the past couple of years. I know at least a few of my friends either had it, or had someone in their family/friend circle who've had it. Any thoughts, experiences, suggestions, warnings you could share?

I have on and off thought about getting it. Then my Dad's wife got it. It fixed her near sightedness but within a few weeks she needed glasses for reading, which the doctor told her was not uncommon. I do way too much reading to want to be impaired in that way. I'd rather the inconvenience of contacts.

Heh, I didn't even realize you had eye troubles at all. Personally, I like my glasses, but then I think I look better with them than without, which is one of the main reasons I never got contacts or even thought about Lasik surgery.

Sadly that makes this entire post kind of useless to you as I have no actual advice to give, hehe.

I got Lasik several years ago. It's been incredible. My vision is near perfect from what was almost a -7 plus astigmatism ( ... )

Awesome...that's just the sort of feedback stuff I'm looking for. Of course, I know it's not going to be the same for everyone, but between you and Inger, I've got a clearer (rimshot) idea of the balance between "I saw God!" and "My eyeballs exploded!".

My ophthalmologist (thank god for spell check), that I've trusted for over 20 years works with TLC Laser Vision Correction. What's the name of the group you used?

I used a group called Diamond vision. Specifically the manhattan location although they have offices in NY, CT and NJ. However I'm not sure if it's all the same doctors and what-not. But they were great.

I met a few people that were wary, so they had it done one eye at a time. This way just in case you can see the results from one before you go ahead with the other.

I am hoping to one day have the courage and money to do it. I am extremely nearsighted and pre-destined to become farsighted as well, as my dad has TRI-focals and I have had my glasses since I was 10 yrs old, AND I am approaching the magic, reading-glasses age of 40 (ask anyone you know over 40 who uses reading glasses!)

I am not that worried about needing reading glasses. I would be happy if I am no longer nearsighted though. What I would be pissed off about would be if I got lasik and then had to wear glasses to see everyday stuff! Like, why did I bother?!

I am excited for you if you go ahead with this! I will live vicariously through you if you do it!
