012 - [Video] Accidental

[After an entire day of trying to sew in water, Juliet has given up and "borrowed" one of Spike's t-shirts, which she has tied off at her midriff, in order to keep her upper torso covered while she's stuck for a week. And by 'stuck', she has a long finned tail (mostly pink scales, with a few blue ones here and there) instead of legs, and is *still ( Read more... )

[Juliet may be having trouble adapting to mermaid-hood, but for Michiru it's been almost as easy as breathing. She smiles. It's a small, amused smile, but there is softness there.]

You do not know how to swim?

[Someone new. Lovely. She wonders if the hair color is a result of her change into a mermaid, or if it is that way normally.]

I do not, Lady. Verona is surrounded by land, and so there was never a need to learn. Lord Saxon suggested I do so when the rains came, but I have not yet had the opportunity. Would that I had been more diligent about taking his advice.

I can see how it would not be a skill you thought you needed until now. If you wished, I could teach you.

Given that I have fallen in the river whilst doing the wash, I should have paid it more mind. Any help you could give would be welcome, Lady.

['Kenneth' doesn't seem to be too different from before. Gills, webbed hands and feet. Mostly the same, though.]

Well, you could try watching some of the fish to mimic them. If you're having trouble, I could come on by to teach what I can. Some things are different, but I can teach the basics.

[She looks at him carefully.]

You have come out fortunate in this newest trick, it seems. You may still walk.

I have tried to mimic the fish, but the entire lower portion of my body is very different from what it should be, and does not respond in the ways in which I should expect. It is most difficult.

Walking is useless out here. I heard that some people change if they go into a dry home, too.

[Sounds like he's been camping when the event started. Still, he's considering what she's said.]

You haven't become aware, physically that is, of the changes. If you want me to come over and teach you, I will. In the mean time when you watch the fish, don't just watch them swimming. Keep note of their fins, and the way their bodies adjust for each movement. It's more subtle than trying to push yourself to go around further.

Can one not walk on the floor of an ocean? I have seen small creatures do so on the rocks under the river's waves.

They move so quickly, it is difficult to see how they do so.

[Sango's keeping the camera on her face, but Juliet might see a flash of gills on her neck in addition to the kind smile on her face.]

I can help, if you like. Where are you?

I am at home. You are able to swim, Sango?

[And then she remembers their arrangement.]

We were supposed to have practiced today!

[Another thing to curse this newest trick for. She had been looking forward to learning self-defense.]

I'll be over soon, if you don't object.

[She considers the second piece calmly.] I believe there's plenty of time for that, Juliet. In any case, when we do get the opportunity, if you don't mind I'd like to bring along a friend. She's from my world--just arrived, actually, and it would benefit her to learn some of those things, too.

I never object to your company, Sango.

[She smiles, assuming that she's referring to Kagome.]

I would not object to that. .

Juliet...

[Bubbles sort of floats by aimlessly. Yeah, she doesn't know how to swim, either.]

Maybe you could teach me when you know!

[She reaches out to grab Bubbles and pull her close. She succeeds in making both of them move closer to each other, and loses the grasp she'd had on her desk in the process.]

We will learn, child. Would that Octi could teach us.

[Bubbles huuuuuuuuuuuugs Juliet tightly.]

I bet we'll be good swimmers by the time the week's over! Don't you think so?

I think we shall. And then we shall not fear to fall in the river. We shall be able to swim to the shore easily, and not cause anyone worry.

[She hugs Bubbles tightly in return.]

It is most kind of you, Kururu. But I have not legs, so it may be difficult to learn your way of swimming.

[Politeness. Must keep the politeness.]

Hmm. That's a valid point. Ku, ku, ku.

I believe the trick is in the undulation of the appendage.

[That laugh is really creepy, Kururu!]

Undulation?
