[After an entire day of trying to sew in water, Juliet has given up and "borrowed" one of Spike's t-shirts, which she has tied off at her midriff, in order to keep her upper torso covered while she's stuck for a week. And by 'stuck', she has a long finned tail (mostly pink scales, with a few blue ones here and there) instead of legs, and is *still

I can help, if you like. Where are you?

[And then she remembers their arrangement.]
We were supposed to have practiced today!
[Another thing to curse this newest trick for. She had been looking forward to learning self-defense.]

[She considers the second piece calmly.] I believe there's plenty of time for that, Juliet. In any case, when we do get the opportunity, if you don't mind I'd like to bring along a friend. She's from my world--just arrived, actually, and it would benefit her to learn some of those things, too.

[She smiles, assuming that she's referring to Kagome.]
I would not object to that. .

[She clicks off the feed and arrives within fifteen minutes, in a mermaid form covered with soft carnation coral. Her long hair billows out behind her, and for some reason the event magic keeps a good amount of carnation coral covering her chest--just as well, now that her normal clothes don't work and she has no access to plain shirts.]

[Without the right words to describe it, she gives the mermaid equivalent of a kick, her lower body heaving and tail pushing her forward as her arms part the water in a breast stroke. Kirara, who is a merkitty for the event, paddles happily along beside her.]
...like that. You see?

I have never seen a cat take to water so well.
[She pinwheels her arms, trying to bring herself more into a swimming position, and then tries to mimic Sango's arm movements. The tail, she still has trouble with. Nothing feels like it should in that part of her body. Nothing responds the way she expects it to. But her arms are still her own, and that, she can at least practice.]
More like this?

[She watches Juliet thoughtfully.]
Mm, the arms are alright, but... well, pretend the tail is like your legs pressed or tied together. Imagine it. And then--kick.

Legs pressed together....
[That is an easier image than fish-tails. She tries to envision where her legs would begin, where her knees would be, and wills her muscles to work. The sudden force of movement takes her by surprise, and she pulls her arms closer to her body, causing her to angle downward, then up again, in a sort-of loop. She shrieks a little, the sound escaping her before she finishes the loop.]
It is most humiliating when a cat is able to swim better than you.

Well, Kirara has been around far longer than either of us. Plus, she has had the advantage of being able to fly--I guess it's not too much different.

[She shakes her head, hair floating all around her.]
I believe nothing will shock me anymore, Sango.
[She tries another kicking motion with her tail, only without as much force behind it as before. It pushes her in a wobbly-sort of straight line, and she smiles.]
How long did it take you to understand the nature of this odd transformation?

[She smiles a tad wistfully at the memory.]

You shall do so again. Perhaps without the falling, now that you are both older.

[She tries the 'kicking' thing again, gently, and combines it with the silly-looking-but-effective arm movements. It's getting easier, but it still isn't easy.]
