Headcanon that when Igor tended Drumknott's stab wound in The Truth, obviously he had to take his shirt off and so found out about Drumknott being a trans man

When Igorina in Monstrous Regiment talked about gender roles, she meant gender roles: you can declare your own gender, but once you've declared it you're generally expected to follow tradition and behave in kind.
That's interesting! Among other things, it would be it's own weird kind of stifling - if you weren't comfortable with the role of women in Igor culture, there would be an out, but if you were like "I don't want to be a feminine demure Igorina who stays home and works on her stitching, but I also don't feel like I'm a guy" people could easily cast you as unreasonably difficult. After all, you had two entire options! Sure, neither one fit with your desires or identity but we gave you two choices! And now you're demanding a third thing? Talk about demanding!"

Yep! She left and disguised as an Igor because it was simplest, but she didn't feel Igor, and she wasn't willing to go the whole nine yards (changing her hair, sure, easy as, but an entire body change?). In part I feel like she needed to get away to figure out what she wanted, too- the Igor clan would be supportive, but there would be expectations, too.
He is, which is why he didn't immediately just go 'yes please!' when he was offered. Also he'd just been through a difficult time- not only the stabbing, but the stabbing that was being attributed to Vetinari, who he is extremely loyal to and who he knows wouldn't hurt him unless he had to and everything was wrong and it was clearly a plot and he couldn't do anything, and I imagine he wasn't allowed to see Vetinari much which didn't help, so having that thrown on top of the pile was just poor timing. (Not that Igor suggested it as a right-now-or-never thing, of course. It was definitely an open offer of 'when and if you're ready, and any Igor will be able to help you if I'm not

Yeah, I think that in Igor society there might be a degree of confusion, because becoming an Igor is more likely to be seen as the solution to discontent with the role of an Igorina, and vice-versa. So she'd want to stick to a minimum, easily-reversible bit of surgery, try things out, and come away with a much clearer idea of who she is and what she really wants, on top of getting to do what she wants.
Drumknott would definitely have a lot on his mind just then, and yeah, Igor wouldn't be "now or never" but might start off "I can fix this right now for you" and then be all "Whenever you're ready" when Drumknott was all "Let me think it over."
(Ooh, I forgot about that! The ruler's secretary who's also the ruler's lover, but discreetly because of social rules is the dwarf version of Drumknott? Yep, definitely some shipping implications there.
I kind of want her to get to Ankh-Morpork for a bit and meet the Watch's Igor, who is also a non-traditionalist, and they can actually talk without someone lisping at them about tradition and what's ecthpected. I think it would be good for both of them
