As I have probably told you before this is just a mile up the road from me. I did have a poke around a few years back when it was covered with scaffolding

Thanks for the link to your photos. Judging by the Russian TV clip, the poor old place doesn't even have scaffolding and plastic sheeting to protect it any more. With much more exposure to the elements demolition will surely be the only option. Maybe an oligarch with a penchant for SH rather than football will save it...

Well the scaffolding was taken down as the council forced the owners to make it watertight a couple of years ago. When I read your post I was just about to go out for a walk so decided to have a trespass and take a few iPhones pix which I will link to later.

Love your cleverly named photos with their different effects. You make the place look gothic and romantic, which befits the residence of a writer. :-)

How sweet it is to see a Russian piece of news in your journal) But where did you get it from at all? Do you read the NTV site on a regular basis or something? )

As for the translation it is really well done! As for me I'd use a different word construction here:
Объединила авторов не только любовь к детективам, но желание спасти усадьбу любимого писателя
It was not just fondness (not sure of this equivalent) of detective stories that united (or rather 'had united'?) the authors, but also a wish to save the favourite writer's country house.

I simply saw the clip on a Sherlock Tumblr site, and traced it to it's source. :-) Knowing the love in your country for ACD, I was interested to see how the story was reported.

Fondness is a good word. As usual, there are many ways to say much the same thing when making even such a simple translation!
