Paige was going to try a new tactic this time around. Yes, she was still incredibly angry at this revelation of Jono and some girl in her future but it really wouldn't do to dwell on it now. If they were going to start fresh, then she would have to forgive everything with no questions asked. And really, she wanted to try and make this work. He just needed to see that she was plenty grown up and could handle this adult relationship!

And so she had borrowed a skirt from Monet-- one that would have made her mother flip out if she ever knew her daughter was wearing it-- put on just a little makeup, and read a few romance novels beforehand. Just in case she needed a good line to say.

"Come in," Paige opened the door for Jono, smiling just a bit bashfully.

"Ta," Jono said, and suppressed the urge to go completely cheesy on her right off the bat with some line about how lovely she was. Because she really did look it. Especially in that skirt.

"You look nice," he ended up saying, and hung up his coat. Compliments never hurt, unless you were eighteen and Paige was ignoring you.

He actually noticed!

And said something nice!

... was this plan actually working? It was too soon to tell. She didn't want to get her hopes up and look too eager.

"Thanks. Do you want a drink?" Yeah, Paige wasn't exactly good at hiding her feelings, so she was all but beaming at Jono after the compliment.

Wow. Wow, she was smiling and happy and he'd missed this terribly; more than he'd allowed himself to think.

"Just water, thanks," he accepted, following her out of the hallway and into the living room. His throat was still sore from his little encounter with the Death twins - not that Paige needed to know about that; at least, not right away - and anything more than tea tended to burn. "How was your day?"

Safe topics. Happy topics. They could do this.
