Nico waved when Lily voice's drew his attention, and made his way over. He was bad at crowds of the living - and fun in general, if we're being honest - so he was sort of waiting for her alone in a corner and watching all the other kids play games. He had gotten used to Lily's presence, though, so he did relax enough to give her a small smile of his own.

"Hey." He paused, glancing around. All the bright, exciting sights and noises of a semi-busy arcade were hell on his ADHD, but he was still managing. "How was school?" Nico had spent the past week dodging the government people who wanted him to go back, personally.

"It was all right," said Lily pleasantly. "I have some homework over the weekend, but nothing too bad. The art homework will be fun, at least."

She had no intention of bothering Nico about it, but if the government workers were harassing him about going back to school, she planned on suggesting the Institute. The teachers were nice, and as a school that catered to imPorts, were accustomed to things that were out of the ordinary.

"What kind of game do you want to try first? I was looking at that game over there," she said, pointing to the shooter game occupied by the two older boys, "but it's being played right now."

Well, even if Lily seems crazy to him for wanting to go to school, at least she has good taste in classes. Art was always less painful than the others. "What kind of art homework is it?"

Unfortunately, Nico was soured on the idea of the Institute after accidentally broadcasting his necromantic escapades over the network. It seemed only the other kids like Lily and Lyra that had been at all reasonable about it; everyone else called him evil or assumed he was too stupid to understand and operate his own abilities without harming the dead or unleashing them on the city. Needless to say, he wasn't big on the idea of an Import-run place that was supposed to help people with their powers.

"... Maybe they'll be done soon." Dr. Crane had given him an X-Box and a shooter title for Christmas, so he figured he'd be better at the game Lily pointed out than most of the others. Plus the fact that older kids were already playing it made it seem all the more appealing. "It looks cool."

Lily liked science as well, but since several of the adults that she respected were scientists, some of it was just to gain a better understanding of their work. The hands on parts of it were interesting and she knew it was important to have a grasp of the background theory behind things. She was thinking of becoming a doctor when she grew up, even, though she still had to figure out what kind. Talking with Dr. Crane had prompted her give some thought to the question, though ( ... )
