[Pre-dinner stuff, gift exchanges, sitting around talking, arriving early or late? It all goes here!]

Josh wasn't sure he'd ever heard or seen Charlie so still and quite before in his life and he began to wonder if something was wrong. Was she trying to find some way to let him down easy or was she too freaked out by the gift?

As soon as she spoke, he let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. He hugged her tightly back and kissed the top of her head.

"Well, you're the best girlfriend ever, so it's only fair."

Charlie grinned and stayed right where she was, hugging him, for perhaps half a minute...an eternity to her, really. And then she leaned back a little, her hands on his shoulders and the tickets held behind his head. She looked a little sheepish as she peered up at him.

"So, like, if I kinda do something a little mean now, you won't hate me, right?"

Hey, Josh had just gotten a near full minute of holding her, that was pretty much a record, so now was a good time for her to do something a little mean.

"I'm not going to hate you," he said with a chuckle.

"So, it is kind of like..." Charlie paused, trying to figure out how to put t.

"I am so totally happy you came and this is the best present pretty much ever, and I am crazy excited to be going but like youkindaneedtoleavebeforedinner."

That was not what Josh was expecting. He was expecting something like Charlie forgot his present in Namibia and now it's gone or she lost it or just forgot to get it.

"You're kicking me out?"

"Uhn...only a little bit? And not yet! Just like...before Batman shows up 'cause I mean, he wouldn't be here as Batman and if I have my boyfriend here with everyone not having their masks on he might get really mad at me..."

From her tone it was fairly obvious she was completely terrified of Batman.

This was ridiculous. Apparently he wasn't good enough for her friends? Well, that wasn't what she was saying at all but that's how Josh was choosing to see it. He already freaking new who Batman was!

"Fine, I'll go," he said, obviously not pleased about it and so upset he didn't really notice the fear in Charlie's voice.

"You don't have to go yet! Just like, before he gets here 'cause he like, already doesn't like me I think and he's kinda in charge of everybody and if he tells me to stop being misfit or something they'd probably all listen..."

None of that was true, charlie just overreacted at times. She tightened her hug. "But like...not yet."

"So I'm not good enough to meet your boss or whatever but you think I'm going to be okay just hanging out until I get the official boot?" he asked, frowning. A lot of times he didn't exactly understand Charlie's train of thought and this is one of those times.

"I mean... you're kicking me out of your party on Christmas."

He wanted to add and I have nowhere else to go but he thought that might be a bit too pathetic.

"Well...I kinda hoped you wanted to stay with me a while longer even if you have to leave..." She frowned at him, and loosened her hug, taking a step back. "And it's not that you can't meet Batman cause, cause you could just not...I mean..."

She frowned. "It's kind of a family thing and I mean, he already doesn't like me. I don't need to...I have to be careful I don't like, screw it up even more..."

Josh felt a bit bad seeing her frown. He was being over sensitive and he knew it. She hadn't meant to hurt him and he could tell she didn't want him to leave.

"I'll stay until the very last second and then sneak out the bathroom window or something, okay?" he said, smiling at her and pulling her back closer. "And he's crazy if he doesn't like you."

Selina didn't look happy to be there. Dressed in gray and black, she was a far cry from the cheery face she'd been the previous week.

Oh, but someone is so very, very glad to see, Selina. Because Helena had a small shopping bag in one hand that she proudly presented to her mother. She may recognize the sweater inside as the one Helena wore not too long ago.

"I think you're missing a bit of cheer in your wardrobe."

She takes but a peek at the sweater, closing the bag immediately. "Very funny. I'm fine."

Helena decided not to push the issue, she could tell that her mother was being gracious just showing up here with her current mood.

"Alright, but I do want you to open your real present," she said, stepping away for a moment before returning with a rectangular, flat package. If Selina were to guess it was a book, she'd be close.

"Merry Christmas, mom."
