Aaron - open grey1911 November 9 2010, 23:42:16 UTC
It'd be a dark day when Aaron showed up late to anything, especially a party being held for him, even if he hadn't asked for it. So, he was impeccably on time, maybe even a few minutes early as he walked in.

"It looks nice." It sounded almost as awkward as he felt in the situation. At least he was putting on an honest smile as he looked around.

A little while after Aaron came in and made himself comfortable, Jaime greeted him, a glass of wine in her hand. "If it isn't the birthday boy. You look fantastic for 99 years old I must say."

It had been a tough choice, between coffee and beer, and eventually elected for the alcohol. Bottle in hand, he smiled as she greeted him, if a touch awkwardly. This was something he certainly wasn't used to, her comment doubly so.

"Thank you. I appreciate all of this..." He gave a small wave of his hand to the spread.

"No problem. I think the last time we really talked it wasn't under very good circumstances," she said, remarking with a somber note on the night Yusuke shot Elisa. She added with a smile, "I'm glad for a more pleasant opportunity... and to have something to celebrate."

Snack table chatting? iamjaimesommers November 9 2010, 23:45:03 UTC
Jaime had arrived early to help lay out the food (HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE) and was putting some last touches on laying out the hors d'ouevres she'd brought. As the last step, picked up a can of nuts and began to surreptitiously try to get the can open with her bionic fingernail. She'd cut halfway through when she realized the thing had a pop top, and rolled her eyes, yanking it the rest of the way off the normal way and pouring them into a bowl.

"Nuts to you," she said testily to the bowl, though clapped her mouth shut, hoping no one nearby thought she was referring to them.

Jack had to smile at that. It looked like Jaime at least had recovered fine from everything that had happened in September. "Thanks for setting all this up," he said, grabbing some nuts.

"Oh, no problem. Laurie really took care of almost everything, she did a great job putting everything together. I just helped a little with the food." Since she was on the other side of the table, she waved to the extensive bar nearby. "Can I get you something to drink while I'm here?"

"How've you been, anyway?"

"Yeah, sure. I'd like another beer." Why not? I don't get many chances to actually relax, he thought. And I probably ought to relax a little for Aaron. Jack was fully aware that his default setting was a little tightly-wound for social situations.

"I've been fine, thanks." Which wasn't precisely a lie. He'd been fine by Jack Bauer's standards. "How about you?"

TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE BOOZE. WHO'S WITH HER? not_polish November 11 2010, 04:06:05 UTC
Like hell would Sally miss this birthday party. It wasn't that she was a close friend of Aaron's, though from casual conversation with the fella she did genuinely like the guy. Oh no, Sally wouldn't miss this party because it was a party her little girl threw for a friend.

A guy friend. A friendship that Sally was happy to misinterpret because honestly, she'd take a suave vampire wooing her daughter over some glowing blue naked H-bomb any day.

She had greeted Laurie with a hug and a kiss, passed Aaron by with a coy, knowing smile complete with a "Happy Birthday", and immediately situated herself by the booze.

To Sally, a party's not a party unless she has some kind of drink in her hand.

Laurie had been buzzing about the room, checking on the guests when she caught sight of Sally settling down with a glass of God only knew what. Fearing the worst, she casually sauntered over to her mother, arms crossed, brows raised.

"Looks like you're enjoying yourself."

HEY WHAT C'MON SHE CAN ENJOY HERSELF EVERY NOW AND THEN not_polish November 11 2010, 05:43:44 UTC
The glass was half empty by the time Laurie reached her, but due to years of alcohol abuse, that wasn't much at all. She flashes her daughter a smile, though internally she's grimacing due to the fact that she knows why Laurie came over to talk to her.

She's checking up on her old...young mother. Christ, she's no old lady, and she's sure as hell no kid.

Sally raises her glass in mock toast to go along with that smile of hers, and she knocks back the rest of her drink. One down, however many more drinks left to go until the booze really starts to hit home.

"What, you don't have a problem with that, do you hon? A mother's allowed to enjoy a party her kid threw for a friend without a questioning look, y'know." She takes the initiative to pour herself another drink. Why yes, she did say friend in a tone that was insinuating something.

"An' I think you're doing a great job at hostessing."

Internally, she was grimacing, though she was all smiles on the outside. Sally would be able to tell it was fake though, somehow she always seemed to know when Laurie was silently seething. Why did she have to start drinking? Why couldn't she just... not? But there was no reasoning with her, not now that she'd already started drinking.

"I'm glad you're having a good time, Mother, but there's no need to go overboard you know. The party's barely started, after all." She frowned, eyes parked squarely on the bottle in her mother's hand. "Save some for the rest of us."
