MIND DIVE EVENT PLANNING

Aug 08, 2011 15:22

OKAY there has been some discussion about what makes a heart game in sabraather and what isn't, but this post is essentially the CFUD take on it, which has been done before-- basically, we're planning a subconscious mind dive where you GET IN TOO DEEP OH GOD. Info under the cut!

...okay i am actually super disinterested in this happening in camp and am having a hard time explaining why right now without just a huge outpouring of D: D: D:

W-WITH NO OFFENSE MEANT TO ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN THEM or people who play in sabra or aather, i just. idk. :(

NO THAT IS FAIR, I can see why some people would not want to see these games mix? I mean that is definitely a concern, and that's why I'm worried on stepping on toes. But on the other hand there is a lot of interest in possibly bringing it to camp too! So idk, it's more like I wanted to... try it, and maybe see if it catches on? And if not, no harm no foul.

yeah, i would be a lot more interested in seeing something that is ~*~SPECIAL TO CAMP~*~ then something imported from games that i don't play in

Any suggestions are welcome. :|b And yeah, in the sabraather rps these heart games are definitely just that-- games. Which... they can't be, in CFUD, so we were considering them definitely more along the line of dream posts/subconscious dives where you GOT IN TOO DEEP OH GOD I NEED TO GET OUT. On the other hand!!wellexecuted brings up a very good point we have kind of done that BEFORE, but I think perhaps not to the deeper extent it could be imo? So yes!! That is how I view it.

I think my only real concern is that the weight in a heart game often swings to "what was changed" and so forth. And I ammmm I guess, unsure how to feel about radical changes coming out of heart games in a game with a very canonical base for its characters and so forth!

Otherwise, we've done subconscious dives in dreamposts which are essentially heart games sans that factor so I am unnnsure what makes this much different?

I HAVE MISSED SOME OF THESE SUBCONSCIOUS DIVES, but I think the main difference IS the possibility of CHANGING something, if that makes sense? And while it's true camp derives a lot from canonical basis, I also think it gives a more firm reality of what a heart game could be like? IDK IDK, words.

I MIGHT HAVE SKIMMED. But I guess for me a heart game can radically alter a character. CARVE OUT THE PHOBIA, seriously fuck them up, really help them, etc. So something like a canonical trait can be erased or changed or whatever. Or some trauma can be eased, etc. It's really a free-for-all in terms of how can you do development or make large impact changes on a character ( ... )

Well the post does make a note about using moogles to reset characters as necessary? Also personally I'd assume that camp would be like... probably more on the fun/ridiculous side than SRS TRAUMA side of things.

I am cool with the concept of this yes. Diving into the subconscious is awesome. BUT I would not want this to affect my characters in any way shape or form. It would be LOOK BUT DON'T TOUCH. I think the actual CHARACTER CHANGE element should be something more reserved to games where the idea is personality alternation given different circumstances. This is because in games like CFUD, I think it's better to have events and people influence characterization rather than someone actually messing them up from inside.

So a long as it's not about the actual effect, I'm all down with it.

This, pretty much. I think the concept sounds super neat and I am already thinking of how my characters' subconscious might manifest...but on the other hand, I apped Boyue because I love all his ridiculous flaws, and if they're going to get messed with, I'd rather that was something gradual and happening more organically as a result of what he himself is doing and who he's talking to et cetera, and not because somebody flipped an internal switch.

IT SOUNDS COOL JUST. changing things doesn't, to me.

The link up there of how they did it last time was a lot of fun, especially playing in the way that Christi did Robin's. I'm voting only for that, but as an organized "AND THESE HEARTS HAPPEN ON THESE DAYS" thing ... noooot so much.

Personally I'd like to see a happy medium, where I knew when the post would be, but there wouldn't be restrictions on who was running what etc. More like the Christmas letter posts, where I announce them ahead of time so people have time to write their letters in advance and plan for OOC circumstances, but there is no other--real modding going on.

I am voting for this as a Persona 4 related event, which is essentially the same thing, and maybe the character can be in their subconscious accepting/coming to terms with something about themselves. I'm not sure about heart games in the Sabra/Aather sense, though, as I am kind of with AJ on them not really working with CFUD as a whole (as memory games come with a level of shaping of identity minus memories and so forth, and how that can play after heart games and getting more memories afterward, all things that I don't think fit in CFUD).

I do think a subconscious/dungeon thing is cool, but again: P4 style, less ... permanent?

I'm totally going to envision everybody's hearts with Meguro strip club music in the background now.

And it's going to be awesome.

YES.

The reason why I like it more persona 4 style if we're going to change things is that it's the character willingly accepting that change themselves. Also, it doesn't mean they have to have a great revelation, but they might be able to move forward a little.

I do agree that's a good way of looking at it. Acceptance, but not necessarily a big change so much as a realization that something is a problem for them. Allows development, but makes it easy to opt in or out and doesn't make it jarringly big.
