Rant alert. BAD LANGUAGE.

Following on from my earlier rant, I have good news for working mothers everywhere. Yes, that beacon of sanity, enlightened thinking and liberality, Mr Nigel Farage, leader of the UK's most forward thinking party, UKIP, has been enlightening us with his jewels of wisdom. He is quoted in the press today as saying that "Read more... )

I read the article, I cant believe how sexest this guy is. As far as I know men get paternity leave when their wives have kids so that leave doesn't count because they are men.

Yeah, this guy is such an utter pillock. The trouble is, there are people in this country who think he is credible. Urgh.

I know, right? urgh.

I'm going to go and write me some badass Hunith fic.

Because the world of fiction - movies, tv, books - doesn't do a good job of portraying mothers as *people* - they are usually in the story in their capacity as a donor of recombinant DNA. Real life isn't like that!

You mean you didn't know that real people who make things happen are all single people of a certain age? I have given it some thought, letting all the media wash through me, and I think this age is 28. For women.

You may find it amusing to hear that my friend from South Africa has no doubt that she could get funding to start a business back home because the policy is based on research showing that money given to men tends to wasted, while money given to women tends to be invested....in the future. You know...children? The people who become you once they're 28?

The way she put it was: A man makes money and he buys
1. a car
2. beer
3. prostitutes

Anyway, that's a little crude. Obviously men do all sorts of wonderful things, but it is very silly of us as a culture to believe that children are a sideline. No wonder businesses get so caught up in short term gains; they've forgotten about tomorrow. Well when you are a Mom, tomorrow came out of your body.

Or you wanted it to, which goes for guys who adopt, too.

How interesting that, in this regard at least, South Africa is a beacon of enlightenment!
