Rant alert. BAD LANGUAGE.
Following on from my
earlier rant, I have good news for working mothers everywhere. Yes, that beacon of sanity, enlightened thinking and liberality, Mr Nigel Farage, leader of the UK's most forward thinking party, UKIP, has been enlightening us with his jewels of wisdom. He is quoted in the press today as saying that "
Working mothers are not as valuable in The City as their male colleagues".
I can't even begin to articulate how much this pisses me, as a mother who works in The City, off.
The worst thing about it is that he's just saying out loud the fucking stupid things that the male elite arseholes who sit on their perches judging the rest of us are thinking.
No matter that there's no evidence for their position.
No matter that, on the contrary, there's abundant, credible, published evidence that firms employing too few women in executive C-level positions experience skewed decision making, and the kinds of testosterone-fueled risk-taking that created the ongoing financial crisis.
In his defence, he says "I think that young, able women who are prepared to sacrifice their family life and stick with their careers do as well, if not better, than men". Well thanks a bunch, Farage, for throwing us females some crumbs from the table. Of course, he's not implying that *men* should sacrifice family life for their careers. No no no. Only women. And notice that tell-tale use of the word "young".
What he's really saying is: if you're female, over forty, and have passed on recombinant DNA to the next generation, shut up and get back in the fucking kitchen.
