Mythology

Well, the two presentations thus far have already blown mine out of the water -- not that it was terribly great to begin with ( Read more... )

Yeah, I found it annoying whenever people used food as the basis of their "project." Depending on the size of the class it can get expensive. And then you may as well be buying your grade :P

btw, I like the icon ;)

Well our class is a really small one (around ten people total) and lately most of them haven't been showing up, leaving the average around six to eight. So I don't think it could get too expensive, but still, it does feel like they're buying their grades a little.

And thanks. ;) Got on a little Egyptian kick after my own presentation and I liked Isis the best, so there you go.

The food thing totally reminded me of our final project in my mythology class. It was a creative project, and I ended up writing that Cupid and Psyche remake story thing that you may have read once. About half the class brought in food for it. While some of it was creative (like the Frosted Flack treat make out like a temple), some of it was, well, let's just say someone brought in donuts. Luckily, though, they totally created a myth around it. Many people did pictures, and I was the only one who did a story ( ... )

Well for the people with food, there was actually a presentation to go along with it. I just felt like the food was kind of like sucking up to the teacher or something since she even (jokingly, mind you) admitted that "it's good to feed the people marking you".

We actually didn't do much -- the Mythology unit was basically two-three weeks -- one week is these presentations and the others were work time. Which is too bad, I'd have liked to learn more. And it's funny, the teacher refused to let us do Greek or Roman since everyone was familiar with them (even though I'm sure that presentation would have been very easy).

And, according to the two members of the Celtic group, it's really hard to find anything on their mythology. o.O So we'll see. (I will admit I have not yet finished Lord of the Rings, let alone the Simarillon).

That is annoying.. I always hated when people did that in High School. -_-;

I'm with Erin, though... I love Mythology to pieces... and I probably would've been absolutely enthralled by your presentation compared to the others. But, unfortunately, that's what happens in most classes like that. There are the people who have a genuine interest in the subject, and there are those who scrape by, only wanting the course for it's easiness. :( A mythology class where everyone is equally interested would be a wonderful thing. Let me know if there is one, I want to take it.

Bleh... what can you really do about it, though? ^^; I'm sure you did great.. and good luck with le doctors appt on friday. :D

I didn't mind their presentations...the food was their 'creative aspect' but that had an informative presentation to go along with it.

And actually the course is called Writer's Craft; we've studied various aspects of writing and done a little creative writing. This is just a mythology unit (and it's sad that the unit's writing assignment -- write your own myth -- was cancelled due to lack of time between the end of the presentations and start of exams because I would have really liked to do that). Though a full-blown mythology course would be really cool. :D

And thanks. :D
