Yeh - there is much to wonder anonymous November 26 2008, 05:40:44 UTC
I went to the bio - and then to the posts to check that the bio wasn't just 'stage name' because... yes... this sounds very much like 'slash' conventions. But as this isn't fic - I'd wonder if Mr. Barzak picked up the conventions - either by 'this is what some readers like' or just subconsiously by reading sundry other peoples work.

I just finished reading this the other and it was very... different. I've read The Lovely Bones before, but the two are definitely very, very different ( ... )

I was really confused about Adam's sexuality throughout the entire book. I thought he was gay, but then he got together with Gracie (with promise of the two reuniting at the end of the book), but he was always so comfortable with being fairly intimate with Jamie. To be honest, I had a bit of a hard time wrapping my head around it, but I liked it anyway.

That was one thing about this book that I felt never rang true. If he was supposed to be a completely straight boy, he should've been freaked out at first, you know?

The Love We Share Without Knowing is a completely different but beautiful book. I hope you're willing to give it a shot some day!

I just finished this book recently and I enjoyed it. Jamie definitely read as gay and desiring Adam to me. Adam didn't really read as gay to me though. It seemed to me that he was going along with what Jamie wanted rather than wanting it himself. He seemed to have far more physical attraction to Gracie than to Jamie. Then again, he could be bisexual or just plain confused about his own sexuality, too. I appreciated the fact that Christopher Barzak didn't lay out his sexuality and shove it into a neat little box.

I wanted to find who the murderer was, too. I can understand why Barzak didn't put it in the book, but I really wanted to find out who did it. :(

Aside from that though, the rest of the book was good. I particularly enjoyed how the drama between Adam's mother, father and Lucy played out.

So glad you took the time to read it! Do you think you'll read more of Barzak's work in the future? :)

So glad this worked for you! Have the Dares been more of a success for you as a whole?

Well, I've only done two (...three if you count Libyrinth, but I read that within a few weeks of its release, haha), so I can't really say. The other one I did was Shadowbridge and I was kind of ho-hum on it. I was going to try another (can't remember which one now), but I couldn't get it either from the library or interlibrary loan so I skipped it. Others just didn't have a premise that grabbed me so I didn't look into them.

Fair enough!

You should comment to the LIBYRINTH review, even though you read it when it first came out!
