Can't knit, but I can needlepoint

Feb 05, 2010 09:02

This one is about 15 years old and was originally done for a foot stool.  It's been in the attic for about 10 years so I'm going to turn it into a throw pillow for the family room.

Next time you come up here to visit, get allasondrea to take you to Needlewoman East in Falls Church. Wonderful needlepoint and embroidery thread!

Lovely work. And I second a trip to The Needlewoman East. It's about ten minutes from our place.

I hope your hands are feeling better soon.

Thanks! It's not the hands though, it's the right shoulder and it's starting to really annoy me. I hope I can get to Needlewoman East sometime this year. There aren't enough distractions here. :-)

Knitting hurts me too after a while, in a way that sewing doesn't. I think it's the gripping and manipulation of the needles.

Beautiful needlepoint! :)

Thanks! It keeps me off the streets. The older I get the more trouble I have with all sorts of things that didn't used to bother me. Mostly arthritis related. Sigh...we get older or we die. On the whole, I'll take getting older for now and learn to work around the problems it brings. :-)

Do you use basketweave stitch? I love looking at the back of my canvas when I do that. :)

Needlepoint is what started my tendonitis, darn it. But I was doing it ALL THE TIME, like 12 hours a day or so, making things on deadline.

Funny info: Viscount Edward "Fast Eddy" of Pennsic/An Tir fame got his laurel in needlepoint.

I did basketweave on the back of the top one because it was going to get a lot of wear as a foot stool. It does look nice from the back, doesn't it? But it seems to me that it pulls diagonally more, or I just pull everything too tightly. So Master Fast Eddy is a needlpoint Laurel? LOL! I didn't know it was period!
