Second, the footnotes:

Technically, you could argue that this strip is actually 'Christmas in Portland,' since the only panel that doesn't necessarily take place in Oregon is the first one. Since I was in the company of Vixy and Tony (who is bizarrely not ( Read more... )

I've been told for years that I need to go fangirl at Powell's, but I thought they were having me on. That's it; I'mma book me a flight out to Portland...

Ah my beautiful Portland. Had you never been to Powell's before? I freaking love it there. And sadly, I never got the chance to get to Voodoo Doughnuts but I hear they have donuts that are cream-filled and shaped like a boy's naughty bits.

*grins* I'm still sorry I was such a wimp about getting out that I didn't get to see you, but maybe next time we're in the same area.

Regarding the first panel... dornbeast March 18 2009, 15:37:09 UTC
Oh. So it's not just me and my brother.

Pity my mother - she got to drive to interesting places with two corpses in the car. A lot.

I blame it on being dragged out of bed at too-damn-early for trips to see my mother's parents in Hood River when I was a kid. After all that training in getting the sleep my body wanted when in a car, a smoothly running engine and a comfy chair is practically a winter lullaby in a bed with the covers piled high.

Powells is so awesome it kind of circles around and becomes overwhelming. I need to be poked now and then when I'm there or I just kind of stand there staring because my brain has overloaded at the sight of so many books.

I saw Voodoo doughnut the last time I was there but I didn't actually go in because I'd had a vague recollection of them being the ones that make the bacon doughnut and the very thought chills me to the bone...

*grin* I know that mindstate, though usually I was able to shake myself out of it, mostly because I'd spot something really shiny and need to go pick it up. The most difficult part of visiting Powells was talking myself out of buying all the things I wanted to pick up. There are *still* books I think about seeing there that I haven't found anywhere else, and it has been over a year.
