Ten good things about today (and the week in general).

10. Today is the first day of Wondercon, San Francisco's own entry in the wonderful world of the comic book convention! I'm actually planning to attend all three days this year, much as it pains me to admit that I'm spending an entire weekend commuting back into the city where I store my day job; the distribution of the X-Men and media panels ( Read more... )

>6. Another week of new comics, and Jean Grey is still dead.

One whole week, and she still hasn't been cloned/resurrected/mimicked by an extraterrestrial super-intelligence/found?! I think that might be a record... :-)

For some reason, that news bullet struck me as being in the voice of Chevy Chase.

Kitty!

I adore maine coons. That's the cat I grew up with, so now I expect all the best kitties to be gigantic and fluffy and loud.

Loud? That's unusual. Maine Coons in general have a reputation for being rather quiet cats. Our Heidi (pictured) almost never makes a sound -- months can go by between occasions. Apparently she never even had a clue that she *could* communicate with humans like that until she joined a household with a pair of mostly-Siameses. It took a couple of years, but she now knows it's possible, though unless she's really upset (as in the weeks following the death of one of the mostly-Siameses) she mostly chooses not to.

Ours didn't do casual chatter, but when they were unhappy about something you could hear them from several houses away. The other kittys I've had meow a lot more, but can't come close in pure volume.

Wow. As I said, unusual. Were they from the same cattery? It may have been a trait unique to their line.

Maine Coons can be talky, but tend to have soft, sweet-toned voices and not much volume. As always, there are exceptions.

Vir (pictured) more than makes up for Heidi. He can't even walk into a room without announcing himself.

I actually took some video of the kitten in question the other day; as soon as I change my camera battery I'll get around to posting them to my flickr account. Really. Real Soon Now.
