What on earth is it? Is it a series of books? I heard something about a role-playing game of it, but never heard anything after that.
Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but it's been driving me crazy for years not to know anything about it.

See, there's Bureau 13: Stalking the Night Fantastic, which is a very serious setting with some awesome random encounter tables; it could easily be used as the backdrop system for, say, a Torchwood RPG. I respect its existence, but dislike the game mechanics enough to not be a huge fan.
It's also a book series by the woefully under-appreciated Nick Pollotta. The first three books were published like ten years before the latter two, which I haven't actually read -- but I love that original trilogy like burning. They're titled Bureau 13, Doomsday Exam, and Full Moonster, and if you like gonzo wacky horror/comedy with aliens and magic and weirder things, I can't recommend them enough.
