An open letter to the CW.

Dear the CW Network;

It was with some dismay that I received the news that you're planning to shuffle Supernatural around the schedule like you were Fox and it was Firefly. This is not appropriate behavior for a kind, nurturing network that doesn't want angry fans marching on its gates with sticks. We're already pretty cranky, thanks to this ( Read more... )

It's too bad threats of an exorcism would probably bring either the boys in blue or the boys in white down on you, because that's otherwise a beautiful letter and something *all* the networks really need to see. The geeks, the ones that are going to run the companies that make the hardware and the software that enable them to make modern video product, and the ones that write the books that the computer geeks read when they're trying desperately not to burn out (that includes you, m'dear), are *pissed*, and if we get mad enough, we will Take Them Down. Or simply render them irrelevant. (Heck, we already do that with RIAA; half the stuff on my iPod is filk or indie, including some of your stuff ( ... )

"The only problem we've got right now is that, while we can make totally kick-ass albums on a shoestring budget (jeez, how many people do I know and have hugged that have done that?) we need to figure out how to do that for video, which is a whole 'nother thing."

I am convinced that the incumbent-media agenda is intended to hobble the technologies of personal media creation and publication -- "piracy" is the excuse, not the reason.

But at least they're moving it after it runs out of new episodes. I don't know how much attention they pay to ratings of reruns.

If you rewrite the letter and polish it a little (like, remove the exorcism threats), you could send it to the advertisers... they pay attention to letters that say "I'm not planning on buying your stuff because you're putting it on shows/times I don't watch."

I'm not sure if a network CEO needs an exorcism or a banishment....
