I just watched Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief and now I'm totally fangirling Poseidon (and the actor who plays him, Kevin McKidd). I absolutely adore the Percy Jackson novels (and all the kids novels I've read by Rick Riordan - his recent Egyptian mythology series is even better IMO).

I loved the movie too... it did change quite a bit from the book, but I think some of those changes were good ideas (aging the kids up a bit for example). Others I wasn't so keen on, but that's normal! I thought the casting was EXCELLENT - especially Uma Thurman, Sean Bean and the guy from Grey's Anatomy I can't remember the name of. The kids were good too.

Re: Harry's support system - as much as I've always loved Dumbledore, he's definitely a guardian from afar most of the time. There's Molly Weasley though, she's probably the most dependable adult Harry has.

I finished reading the first book last night before I went to bed and I completely agree with you, they are amazing novels. I'll see if I can't get his books for christmas together with the kindle, that'd be awesome ( ... )
