I just watched Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief and now I'm totally fangirling Poseidon (and the actor who plays him, Kevin McKidd). I'm half-way through reading the first book of the series (so I watched the film first, I wasn't about to get sucked into another series like HP bound to disappoint me terribly sooner or later), but

For me Sean Bean and the guy from Grey's Anatomy (who played Poseidon and made me squee in the first place *grins*) made the film for me. Uma Thurman was amazing, but short ... well, if you don't count her repeat appearances with a little part of her *grins*. Now that I've seen the movie and read the film I'm a bit torn. I think that the book is far superior, but the movie is still a good watch as long as viewed as a separate entity from the books. And there were quite a few changes I don't think will serve them if they want to make the next book into a film, too. But hey, it's pretty much the same thing as was with the HP movies and they somehow pulled it off there ... so it's possible, I guess.
Of course! I did forget Molly. You're absolutely right, of all the adults in Harry's life she's the only one who actually treats him according to his age and doesn't expect him to save the entire wizarding world. I always thought they should just have let her mother him, Harry would have turned out so much better (less lonely, less untrusting of grown ups trying to protect him, less scarred for life).
Reading the book Poseidon doesn't say anything like he said in the film, but of course, this whole thing is again screwed by being in the kid's perspective. I'm not entirely sure yet, which I prefer, Harry Potter or Percy Jackson, I think I'll just have to read the rest of the series to find out!
