The Dark Hour - OPEN

Apr 25, 2009 01:26

It was rather clear that the Void did not really understand the concept of day and night, but the Universe Construction Network nevertheless functioned on a twenty-four hour clock. The time was displayed prominently on clocks in various facilities, as well as on the BBS terminals, and so far there had been no sign of the Void making any adjustments as to how time worked. Surely, though, this normality simply could not be expected to persist in a place like this.

One night, as the clocks marked 24:00, every clock stopped, all electronics ceased functioning, and the entire Network was washed over in an eerie darkness. All liquid - cafeteria, laboratory, communal bath house - turned to a bloody red, perhaps even real blood. Red crystal coffins took the place of a variety of other objects, from BBS terminals to housing units.

The surrounding Void took on strange shades of green, from the sky itself to the ever-shifting shapes and forms that could always be seen. Even the six moons, normally of all different colours, shone green light upon the Network. It was unusual for the environent to remain so consistent for longer than five minutes, but it would hold this atmospheric lighting for a full hour - an hour that, apparently, sat in between those that marked the divide between one day and the next.

This is simply the first night. From here onwards, this hour will take place every night.
